| On trusting and believing... |

I keep having this ambivalent response to the Boundless webzine from Focus on the Family. MInd you, it's aimed at those in their 20's, and I'm not.But still, just when I get that "feeling" about them, they go and post something that touches my heart. Here is one by Carolyn McCulley called "Eat Bitter" . In particular let me quote her last thoughts.....
"This is the Christian view of "eat bitter." It's not mere endurance; it's joy-driven trust that tempers the impatience of a self-centered view with sanctified patience of a God-centered perspective that these inconveniences and afflictions are part of the "all things" that He is working together for our good and His glory."
She also quotes Psalm 31...and I'll quote the last verse...... 31:24Be strong, and let your heart take courage, All ye that hope in Jehovah. Psalm 32 `A Psalm' of David. Maschil. When life seems lost and hopeless, when the diagnosis is very bad, when poverty, or war, or anything else comes before us, reaches in and twists our heart into knots. When divorce, or the results of bombs on young men, when hope deferred becomes hope lost, when that "voice" is lost in the jumble of an aching heart, then "let your heart take courage". Many years ago God gave me my life's verse, I too often forget it....
8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? And if we would have a family verse, this one would fit. I've seen it marked in bibles for generations in my family......
122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go unto the house of Jehovah. So where am I going with all this....each day God calls us to believe. When Paul talked about running the race, fighting the good fight, he was telling us to chose daily. whether it's choosing to love your spouse each morning, to do the right things at work each day, to believe the things God has called us to, or just get up and move into the new day believing that He has called us, and that all His words are true.....
145:9 Jehovah is good to all; And his tender mercies are over all his works.
145:21 My mouth shall speak the praise of Jehovah; And let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever. My mouth shall speak, and my flesh will bless. Not my heart will know, or my feelings will understand, no, my mouth will speak and my flesh will bless. So what will overcome us? Our mouth will speak, and our flesh will bless, and God will speak to our voice,a nd moinister to our flesh, He will guard our coming our and our going in, and nothing, nothing will overcome the love tha has been given through Christ Jesus. In fact He has caused His Holy Spirit to dwell within us and be a comforter. He has dwelled among us, and then dwelled within us. So believe !!! Believe. |
