| My thoughts on today's verse... |

I'm glad to see this verse today. It reminds me of a topic we covered in Alpha...Should we fear God? When asked for my personal opinion, I of course said that I do fear God...we're told to fear God (quite obviously stated here). And my fear of God is not a cowardly trembling fear, but a very healthy respect for the almighty one! I can best desribe it in the way that a child may respect their parents. And the biggest fear for me was always disappointing my parents. And just like a parent, they would say..."As long as you tried your best, that's all the we ask of you." So that always made me want to try harder. I cannot count the many times I have disappointed my Creator. But just like a parent, He's there to pick us up when we fall and says "Try again. I love you all the same!" WHAT AN AWESOME GOD WE SERVE! A great book to go along with this verse is: Jesus Freaks Volume 2: Fearing God, Not Man
Blessings to you all!
12:4 "I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 12:5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him! |
