| Jealous, Merciful God and Giants |
|

Mike wrote a blog that peaked my interest. It was about whether the Bible is simple, for people like us to read. In reading my Bible study this morn, the simplicity of what I was reading was the answer. Also it gave me another message that I'd like to share also.
4:24 For Jehovah thy God is a devouring fire, a jealous God. 4:25 When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have been long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image in the form of anything, and shall do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, to provoke him to anger;
How simple is this? I don't need big words or someone to tell me what it means. These people had seen all that God had done for them, yet they needed a reminder not to do wrong, not to worship anything but HIM, for HE is a jealous God! How simple, no interpretation needed, it's black and white.
Yet, a few verses later, is another reminder of our God.
4:29 But from thence ye shall seek Jehovah thy God, and thou shalt find him, when thou searchest after him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. 4:30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, in the latter days thou shalt return to Jehovah thy God, and hearken unto his voice: 4:31 for Jehovah thy God is a merciful God; he will not fail thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
He is compassionate and merciful. There again, it's black and white.
I don't need someone telling me that in this situation it means something different. Why? Because it's there in black and white and it applies to my life today. How? It challenges me to look at the idols in my life today and where God has brought me from and to get rid of those idols because HE is jealous. It reminds me to ask forgiveness and repent, and HE is merciful and compassionate. Simple, isn't it? I didn't have to dig out book upon book or ask someone to tell me what it means.......it's there. I need no arguments that tell me that I'm reading it wrong.
The second thing I got from reading Deuteronomy 3 and 4 is that they faced giants....King Og's bed was around 13 ft. long and 6 ft wide! That's one big man! But, God told them to go fight.......and of course they won, destroyed them all! Whether I'm facing a physical, mental, spiritual, financial, or emotional giant......God is on my side! The battle is His and if I follow what He tells me to do......then I've defeated those giants. How about you? |

[star!] | I grew up in a fishing community. Ever met the stereotypical fisherman? nuff said if you have! And yet several of the Apostles (eg. Peter) were "ignorant fishermen"....that is ignorant fishermen whom had the Holy Ghost dwelling in them, leading them into ALL truth. They didn't have Strong's Concordances and Bible dictionaries, explaining the true meaning out of a verse. They didn't have PhDs or stuff like that. Nope. They were smelly scruffy uncooth fishermen! lol |

| P.S. I love my Strong's Concordance and all. What I mean is some ppl get so "scholarly", they study the meaning right out of a verse. Just wanted to clarify. |
