What is Porn or Pornography? Wikepedia the online encyclopedia writes:
Pornography or porn is the explicit depiction of sexual subject matter with the sole intention of sexually exciting the viewer. It is to a certain extent similar to erotica, which is the use of sexually-arousing imagery.
Did you know that the word "Pornography" comesfrom the Greek word "Pornia" or "Pornos?" The word derives from the Greek πορνογραφία (pornographia), which derives from the Greek words πόρνη (porne, "prostitute"),γράφω (grapho, "to write or record"), and the suffix -ία (-ia, meaning "state of", "property of", or "place of"), thus meaning "a place to record prostitutes".
The Biblical Greek word is "Porneou" which means to act the harlot or fornication. "Fornication is a big word but it simply means: voluntary sexual intercourse between two unmarried persons or two persons not married to each other.
There are probably hundreds of reasons why a Christian man or woman, or young person should not engage in the viewing of pornography. I don't know that I am going to list them all for you, but perhaps the Holy Spirit will use this convict those that are involved in it even on the slightest of levels all the way to the person so deeply involved they are bound by it.
Some will argue that sex is normal and should be celebrated and experienced. Some will also say that pornography is a form of free speech and that prudish people ought not to view it if it offends them. God is not against sex, after all He created it. It is a wonderful expression of love and intimacy between a husband and wife. What God is against is, unrestrained lust, dishonoring our bodies that are His Temples, and perverting the wonderful gift he has given to mankind. Some will say that pornography is normal, and that it is a right of passage for a young man. That it is educational and that is better than exploring the real thing where possible dangerous sexually transmitted diseases are a real possibility. As believers we must understand that the Devil is a liar, and has been since the beginning. He appears to us as an "angel of light" and seeks to distort and pervert what God has said.
First of all, a Christian should not be involved in pornography because it is sin. It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; I Thes 4:3 This is one of those statements that is a no-brainer. It can't be any more obvious that God wants us to live a life of separation and holiness. Sanctification is one of those Bible words that sounds big but it is really simple. Sanctification means purity and set apart for holiness. God commands that we be "Holy as He is holy." What fellowship has light with darkness? If God is Holy and you are His child why would He want you to participate in something that you know deliberately violates His will for you? We as humans like to rationalize and justify our behavior with thoughts like: "It is just me and no one else." "It actually is helpful in the bedroom" "I need it to stimulate me" "It is how I cope with stress." No matter how you slice it, it is still sin. Sin, even though God has forgiven us of it, still has consequences. The wise King Solomon wrote in Proverbs: "Can a man bring hot coals to his chest and not be burned?" The answer is of course not! God sets boundaries for us for our own good. It is not like, He does it so we can be miserable and He can be happy, but it is for our protection. For instance I have a friend who has a large piece of property. But that property is bordered by an electric fence. He owns a horse and as long as that horse stays within the boundaries of the property that horse is as free as he wants to be. He can run, jump, play, walk, eat, sleep, and whatever a horse wants to do within the confines of his property. If there was no fence and the horse could go wherever he pleased, then the horse would be subject to all that is going on outside the fence. That environment outside the fence is not as protected and friendly as what is inside the fence. It is the same with God. He has provided plenty of freedom for us to enjoy, but He knows that if we forsake his guidelines, we will be subject to whatever else is out there and that environment is not as pleasant as it is in His presence. Hopefully, this makes sense to you.
Men, I know this is particularly hard for you to obey. Many of us fight the Romans 7 battle daily. "The thing that I want to do I don't do and the things that I don't want to do that I do." Can any one relate to that? There are some practical steps you can take to deal with this, but perhaps that is a message for another day. The goal of this blog at this moment is to at least make all of us realize that Porn is not OK. It displeases God and will break your fellowship with Him. Begin to confess your sin to God and cry out for His mercy, grace, and power to overcome this temptation, stronghold, or bondage in your life. There is plenty of divine power available to all of us to help us overcome whatever we face and to conqueor sin.

| The Bible is VERY clear on sexual immorality...There must be hundreds of scripture that one could post here...it is unacceptable in the Lord's sight...just like any other sin...we need to be aware of those boundries that God has placed for us...love the horse analogy Brother Todd! Thanks for this post...it is necessary as sexual immorality seems to be on the rise these days and the people participating seem to just get younger... |

| MS. Suga: I could have gone on for days, and perhaps I might. I know this won't get a lot of popularity, but it is a problem in the church from the pulpit to the pew. From the old to the young. How can God bless us corporately if there is sin in the camp? How will He bless us personally, if we are in rebellion? |

| Even imagery in the fantasy realm where a person engages in pleasing themselves is fornication. The biblical term is pleasers of themselves with mankind. This type of fornication can be even more prevalent because the person doesn't have to actively look at pornographic images. They develop the images in their minds and actively carry out the sexual act. Some people go as far as projecting, which is the occult practice referred to as astral body or astral projection where a person can release an ethereal form of themselves to travel where someone else is and engage them sexually. If anyone has felt someone with them while they slept it is more likely a projection and this is more likely where there is a soul tie. The only way to really overcome this is to break off any emotional ties you may have with anyone whether past or present. More on this if you ask me. GBU Brother Todd |

| Oh, this is a good one!!!!! While my son was in intern ministry, they took the kids to church camp. Boys and girls are separated, right? Well, my son came upon a young man watching( wasn't where he was supposed to be) the girls swim, and my son had a talk with him, a gentle but Godly talk. A deacon was there and informed my son that what that boy was doing was fine with God, because God put women on the earth to stare at and to look at their bodies! My son (I was sooooo proud of him) asked the deacon to show him where that is fine with God in the Bible. The deacon got angry and my son gave him scripture and he got angrier, but my son stood his ground :) |

Amen! I find it disgusting to have it thrown in my face. Televisions show are even using sex to entice viewers. I find it appalling. Children remeber what they see on television and act them out. Pornographyshould be banned. The problem is that it is all around us and that I don't like the way that they understood |

| Excellent & on time message brother. I'm actually amazed at the timing of this, because my husband & I had just talked about how rapidly sexual immorality is increasing. Yesterday, I'd just caught between channels, the opening of a television program discussing the growing trend of pornography among women, as a marital band-aid, or enhancement. I agree with those who have responded above...the world says "sex sells", but they don't explain the hidden fees...We bank with Jesus, because His return on our investment is eternally secure. |

| Well guys: A lot of good comments! Cindy Lou: Isn't it funny how we rationalize to ourselves? We tell ourselves "it is not wrong it is natural" Marjay: Thank you, my sister! God bless you as always! Jay: It is hard to get those images out of our minds once they are there. The mind is very powerful. I always thought of a soul tie as someone you had "known" in the Biblical sense. Love of the light: Pornograpy is everywhere even in it's most subtle and basic forms! Our culture has been so desensitized to it, it hardly effects us anymore. LM: It is so good to hear from you again! Pornography used to be a "men's vice" but now it is among both genders. Yes, there are a lot of hidden fees with sin that is for sure! Juan: Welcome back...me Armano. Marilyn and Stew thanks for your support! I love you guys! |

Wonderful blog. So many struggle in this area -- it is just so easy to get porn now. Nevermind walking through the mall--Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria's Secret (What a misnomer that is!! There is nothing "secret" in the windows!!), Fredrick's, Hollister, etc., etc..
Cindy Lou--I am so proud of your son!!!! I can only imagine how proud you must be!!! |
