I am so very thankful for the opportunity to share these notes. Today I was minstered to exactly where I sat, exactly what God wanted me to hear, and exactly just what my heart needed! God is a most excellent and perfect God. Praise His Holy Name.
my notes:
Speaker: Major Andy Kelly Scripture: Psalm 78:1-29
"A God Ready to Forgive"
8:35 Who will come between us and the love of Christ? Will trouble, or pain, or cruel acts, or the need of food or of clothing, or danger, or the sword? 8:36 As it is said in the holy Writings, Because of you we are put to death every day; we are like sheep ready for destruction. 8:37 But we are able to overcome all these things and more through his love. 8:38 For I am certain that not death, or life, or angels, or rulers, or things present, or things to come, or powers, 8:39 Or things on high, or things under the earth, or anything which is made, will be able to come between us and the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I cannot be separated from the love of God. We had to repeat it out loud a couple of times... "I cannot be separated from the love of God!" BUT... we can remove ourselves from fellowship with God. When we go our own way - any disobedience and rebellion can cause us to lose our salvation. HOWEVER... He still loves us! He loves us even if we have taken ourselves away from His fellowship. He will always love us.
Back to Psalm 78: He gave them everything they needed with water & manna, yet they still wanted more. Despite all of the wonderful things God had done for them, they still complained and rebelled. They lost their fellowship with God because of their disobedience.
None of us is any better than anyone else. We are all born sinners. God sees us the same regardless of ethnicity, social status, etc. We are all the same in His eyes. He will judge us. We mustn't judge others, thinking we are better than they are. God will judge us according to how we judge others. Even people in the church can be hurtful the way they judge others. We should look at the whole person, not just the outward appearance. How can we know the whole person?
2:1 So you have no reason, whoever you are, for judging: for in judging another you are judging yourself, for you do the same things.
God desires us to build relationships with others and be an influence for the positive. Don't just be with people that are like ourselves. Build relationships with others that you might have judged harshly. We need to fight against the sin in our own lives and hearts. We then can show love and kindness to others.
Nothing can separate us from His love - and we should not be a barrier to others towards a relationship with Him. (I'm not quite understanding what I wrote there... I need to learn shorthand!)
God deals with each of us differently and we are all in a different place in our walk with Him. We may look different from each other - but God still loves us the same. We must love others in the same way.
The real worship happens when we leave the church on Sunday and reach out to others throughout the week!
Jesus loved others in spite of what they'd done or their lifestyles. He built relationships with them and then told them "Sin no more." He is the example we need to follow.
'To be like Jesus - This hope possesses me' John Gowans originally wrote "obsesses" but was told that word was too strong, so he changed it to possesses. He regrets making that change. It should be our all-consuming obsession to BE LIKE JESUS! We don't do it alone, 'His Spirit helping me' We must allow The Spirit to help us - give us the words we need to minister to others. Lead us on the right paths, direct our thoughts...
To be like Jesus, this hope possesses me, In every thought and deed, This is my aim, my creed; To be like Jesus, this hope possesses me, His Spirit helping me, like Him I'll be.
Amen! |

| Let's not forget that it was also about not hurting others, especially in church. That is part of the message that reached me the most. I was just thinking last night that the most I've ever been hurt has been in church by "Christians". I'm sure I've hurt people too and like the message said, God is willing to forgive me and those who hurt me. It's more than just scripture, it's my Dad sticking up for me! |
