| Chauncey Bailey Murder Anniversary |

This past weekend marked the one year anniversary of the murder of intrepid Oakland journalist and martyr Chauncey Bailey. Mr. Bailey was assassinated in a misguided attempt to silence his work on a compelling story about a corrupt business enterprise.
I met Mr. Bailey one time in the early 1980's, when I was applying for a journalism fellowship program. I was really shocked upon reading of his murder a year ago. I was pulled in to his story when coming across the information that he was a devoted Catholic who favored the Latin Mass and attempted to attend Daily Mass as often as his life as a single father and work as a reporter/editor would allow. If felt a definite kinship. I include Mr. Bailey and his surviving family in my thoughts and prayers over Oakland murder victims.
