| The Golden Rule |

So a couple of weeks ago, I was working with our youth group and we were discussing why we imitate people. How when we imitate them, we are really showing to them that we admire them and want to be like them. So we had them list all of the characteristics or qualities of God. We discussed how we should all try to be more like God. Two of the qualities they listed were love and respect.
I tell you this because this Sunday will be my first lesson teaching them. I've chosen to play on our original discussion of trying to be more like God and showing others respect and love. So I chose to use the verses in Luke 10 which talks about the Golden Rule. I thought this would be a good way to start a discussion and show them that even when it's the hardest, to get love, you must give it. Same thing with respect. I'm planning on using a couple of role-playing to help get the point across...one of them is a father and daughter arguing, the other is a student texting in the middle of class and getting in trouble with the teacher. I want to do a role-play showing how to show the respect and love amongst their peers, but I'm having a bit of problem with that. When I talked with our Youth Pastor, he suggested having 4 of the girls having a conversation, where two of them start but are interupted by a phone and then other people...one of them gossiping. I was thinking of using peer pressure, but I'm not sure how to work that in...I'm putting this out there to see if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to make this work. I really want to get the point across and get them motivate to participate. I want to show them that even when it's hard, doing the right thing will always the best way to handle any situation.
Needless to to say, I'm a bit nervous. I don't know how they'll react. There are some in there who come to every group (even Wednesdays) but act as if they don't really care. I want to get them to care. I want to do something to get their passion up. I don't know...maybe I'm thinking too much about it.
God bless
10:25 And a certain teacher of the law got up and put him to the test, saying, Master, what have I to do so that I may have eternal life? 10:26 And he said to him, What does the law say, in your reading of it? 10:27 And he, answering, said, Have love for the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and for your neighbour as for yourself. 10:28 And he said, You have given the right answer: do this and you will have life.
