| Facing The Giant |

A funny thing happened on the way to the Cross Where I would resign and Jesus would be boss
My intentions were good and my desire was great My mediocrity and weakness I had grown to hate
I knew where I was and where I should be I knew in my strength I would never be free
I would follow Jesus no matter the cost Determined this time not to get lost
I was doing so well and my faith began to grow The Spirit filled my cup till it began to overflow
The blessings of GOD in my life were abundant I bragged on GOD so much it became redundant
At the top of a hill I saw the church sit I thought I would visit with them for a bit
We shared about all the great things GOD had done For the first time in my life christianity was fun
When suddenly a loud angry voice filled the air Challenging any to battle if there was any who would dare
I saw an angry giant stand blocking the way All I really wanted to do was turn and run away
But I was frozen in place as fear gripped my heart My faith had suddenly seemed to depart
I looked around to see if there was any that would go To go and do battle with the giant below
To my amazement not a soul stepped out As they continued focusing on what they were about
Ignoring his challenge they stay where they are Waiting for GOD to send a champion or superstar
Then Jesus tells me that I am the one to go With many reasons and excuses I tell Him no
When from the crowd a small child steps out One too young to understand what life is about
One who has not seen what the giant can do What is left of those when the giant is thru
I offer him my armor but it does not fit Defenseless he will be when he is hit
His only "weapon" is a sling that is well-worn Incapable of doing much more damage than a thorn
With others I sit and watch him go to the valley Thankful it was him that was going to die not me
He gathers small smooth stones from a brook Placing one in the sling and four in a pouch he took
The giant laughs scornfully at the sight This wasn't even going to count as a fight
He curses the church for sending this lamb to the slaughter No challenge to him it is hardly worth his bother
Threatening to tear him to pieces with his bare hands If the child were to turn and run everyone understands
But the child runs forward and releases the stone It sinks into his forehead from the force it was thown
Quiet
Motionless
And then the giant falls
The child struggles to lift the giant's sword over his head As the giant is beheaded the church realizes he is dead
And then I saw the truth that had escaped for so long The battle is not to the swift or even to the strong
But to those who go on while others hesitate Who go on even when death is a sure fate
That thing in your life that has caused you to stall Was never meant by GOD to be a wall
But rather a doorway thru which you must go Where you begin to live all the things you know
.....peace.....

Jesusrestores --- I am convinced many of the things we see as obstacles to faith are actually doorways. What we see as a giant is actually a cross. Not wanting to die is one of our most basic instincts. But before we can live supernaturally we must die naturally.
Jesus instruction to deny self is not a demand for a great sacrifice but rather an offer of great escape. Self will always settle for less than GOD's best in the face of adversity. Self sees the temporal (reality) and not the eternal (GOD's reality).
My heart is burdened for the brethren. So many struggle. Not because they are doing anything wrong but because they are doing things right. And yet the accuser of the brethren puts guilt and discouragement on them because they are not "perfect".
Perfect in the sight of GOD is the one who brings all to the Cross. Their faults, their mistakes, their reputation, their past, their future. Who come not in their strength but in their weakness. Who give the "perfect sacrifice", not their best but their all.
Many know the Old Testament rule about animal sacrifices. They must be perfect to be acceptable. No blemish of any kind. Not bruised or broken. Anything less than the best would be rejected.
But Jesus was bruised for our iniquities (inner ickities), by His stripes (where the whip ripped the flesh away) we are healed. He took our sin (those things that separate, interrupt, and negate GOD in our life) and bore the full weight of it all on the Cross. It was a bloody, vile, disgusting scene. Not perfect in any sense of the word as we think of it. But in the eyes of a heavenly Father who loved His Son with a love we will never be able to fathom, this sacrifice was pleasing.
And even today as we bring our inner ickities, when the scourge of life rips the flesh away from our spirits, and we bear the full weight of those things that have hindered and limited us (dare we call this sin) and we hang between heaven and earth a spectacle, our heavenly Father is pleased. Not because we suffer but because we love Him enough to bring it all.
That is powerful!
