1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves. 1:23 For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: 1:24 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 1:25 But he that looketh into the perfect law, the `law' of liberty, and `so' continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing. Wow. Don't we know a lot of stuff today? Our society is hyper-informed. We've got the buzz and we can spout out the facts and figures. Through computers we have access to so much information at our finger tips. Go ahead. Google something, anything. And just see how much information comes up. Perhaps we are over informed and under inspired.
So? What are we as individuals and as a society doing with all our information? We accumulate it and store it and discuss it and pass it on to others. But do we really apply what we know. And how about the church? Are we Christians any better at applying the truth we know to our day-to-day lifestyles than the world is?
For example. Everybody reading this knows enough to make their life happier and more peaceful. We all know of harmful habits and attitudes that we should stop. We also know about positive things that we should start doing. But do we apply that knowledge? Not much. Why?
We are under inspired. We've got plenty of knowledge but we lack the inner fire to put that knowledge to work in our daily lives. We lack motivation. We lack vision and hope. We lack passion. We lack zeal. So we talk about and sort out information while we wallow in frustration, discouragement, anxiety, guilt, anger, bitterness, and many other negative emotions.
Maybe we should pick a simple idea or technique that we already know in our mind and begin to actually apply it in our lifestyle. Until we begin to live what we know, no benefit will come from our knowing.
Get excited about changing and improving your life. Get fired up. Work like heck to make things better. Get aggressive. Go for self-improvement the way an athlete trains for the Olympics. If you will put your treasure of time, effort, and money into improving your life every day -- soon you will begin to feel inspired. |

My Dearly Beloved Brother, Steve~ Right on Target ! Distractions of Some Thought (knowledge) Keeps Folks From Focusing on Our Highest and Most Valuable Priorities. Priorities, Hopefully, Are Based Exclusively on Our Values>>>>The Highest of Which is The Lord God of Hosts...Our Savior, Christ Jesus!
"...He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection... 20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. 21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.) " Acts KJV {Bro-ken} Brother Ken ORR.

I totally agree with you here - but you took the direction of this post in a different way than I thought it was going to go, given the title. Because the OTHER type of Increasing/Decreasing I have seen is the tendency of the 'world' today to think the 'vast knowledge' we supposedly have about the nature of this world means that the bible is outdated, wrong, or to be disregarded. We're like a bunch of teenagers - thinking we know so much, but understanding SO little. Amen! |
