Before we move on to this verse, let us recap on what was said before Jesus said this verse.

 As we all know, the blue verse is a very popular bible verse widely known.  

Now to elaborate on the verse, Jesus was teaching as usual and this time on how to enter the kingdom of God. And this verse in 27 is an answer from Jesus to certain ruler’s question.

Upon reading the previous verses, one of the most important lessons to note is that Jesus lets us know that as humans, we cannot be Saved/enter the kingdom of God by our own works (that is without God).

Now ''the eye of a needle '' here in this text does not refer to our modern tiny sewing needles but rather, in Ancient Jerusalem or in the city of Damascus, the eye of a needle was a gate or narrow entrance next to the Main City gate which was left open later in the day after the main gate had been shut. Here, anyone with a camel could still go through this ''mini' gate /the eye of a needle but with great difficulties, and any load on camel would have to be removed or let loose to make it possible for the camel to go in. 

Perhaps Jesus is illustrating an important message here, that you can only enter God's kingdom by keeping your gaze on Jesus and the will of God rather than trying to busy ourselves with unnecessary worldly items and possessions or money which will soon pass away.

Securing a place in eternity and doing the things of God which will be recorded in eternity is far more important than worldly possessions which will rust or become devalued as time goes on. That as we all know will be a very dangerous and bad investment!
