Mike......you never write...you never call....What? Are we breaking up?

Awesome words of wisdom here my friend.

"Attempting to re-nourish on yesterday’s leftovers leaves me stale and feeling empty"

I heard a great message the other night about those who just want to bootleg the Gospel. They expect to receive just by pulling on what someone else has gathered instead of going to the table to feed themselves. Got to admit, I am guilty of that myself at times.

Bless you my brother!

Mike,One day at a time, Jesus is enough for each day.  Wonderful privilege we have to meet with our Savior.  The Psalmist said, early in the morning will I greet thee.  Oh Lord in the morning will I direct my prayer and unto thee and will look up.

...in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. (Ps 5:3)

...in the morning my prayer comes before you. (Ps 88:13)

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. (Ps 143:8)

It seems morning is the ideal time to gather manna.....

If you really want to "spice-up" that manna, get into prayer!  Get ready...this will knock your socks off!!!

Tom Harmon's teachings are always transformational.  His recommendation:  1 hr. of prayer each morning.  His minimum is 1 1/2.  Took him 10 years, but I have yet to hear a more powerful man of God.  Check him out.  I promise any time spent under his teaching is time well spent.

I'm a morning person as well.  And its sooooo true that you cannot eat on yesterday's leftovers, because yesterday was supposed to be for yesterday, not today.  Do you get my meaning?

I'm guilty. I'm not a morning person, so I have a hard time getting up before I absolutely have to. A lot of times, if I don't get up early enough, God will wake me up and not let me go back to sleep!
Thanks for the reminder, Mike!

Your welcome Carol! :)
I'm not a morning person either....at all!! And you're right, it's so awesome to be awakened by the Father. That he would actually wake me, tenderly even, in order to spend time with him? Wow!

Steve, I get your meaning!  :)

Margie...4 am? ouch! (ah, but the earlier, the quieter...I'll bet that's definitely the best time of the day for ya!)

LaT, breakfast in bed? lol

I, too, enjoy my "breakfast in bed." :-) This post for some reason makes me think of the words of the hymn, "Give Me Jesus," which has since been redone by Jeremy Camp:

"In the morning, when I rise

In the morning, when I rise

In the morning, when I rise

Give me Jesus..."

My brother i feel what you are saying.....First thing in the morning before we even know who we are God has already made up in His mind that He will breath fresh life in us so that we may give it all back to Him....No he did not say that everything we do will be right but it is great to start the day with the one who guides your way....I need ......better yet I have to have His fresh manna and I thank Him for allowing me to be apart of Him....Our Lord and Savior is so Good that is why we must give him what is due Him......Thank you for the word

I pray in the morning, but my bible reading time is in the evening.  I never go to bed without doing it.  If I don't do it, I don't sleep well.  When I do, I fall asleep in peace, thinking of what I have read and wake up thinking about in the morning.

Megan, I am so not a morning person too!

Thanks Deb! I think one of the worst things we can do is get legalistic about when we read/pray. It still seems you are getting your share of manna too!

SistaDivine, I agree, it's a GREAT way to start the day! :)

Thank you for your encouraging blog.
I work in the public schools so I don't go hungry in the summer b/c I have my time with Jesus daily; But I will be starting back to school tomorrow and your blog smacked me right in the face.. I have to make the sacrifice and be disciplined enough to get up a little earlier and spend precious time with the Father..
Thank You for the push & encouragement I need to start this new school year off right!

Isn't it wonderful knowing He is always right with us?

Mike, great post!  And you are right, it isn't important
what time of day we do this as long as we do it.

Being a third shift worker, I end my day in the
morning, so that is one quiet time I spend with
God. Then in the evening when I arise I like to
start off with some thank you Lord's before my
feet even hit the floor!

We need to do everything we do with God
always in mind. This makes even the most
difficult tasks seem so much easier.
6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Blessings ~ Pasha

Totally tracking with you, Mike!  I love my early morning time with God!  Our summer program for Children's Church has been A Journey Through the Lord's Prayer, and we spent one Sunday just on the verse: "give us this day our daily bread", a jam-(no pun intended)-packed little sentence if ever there was one!  We ask and receive our physical bread and our spiritual bread, but as you point out, it's only good for today.  We do well to remember that God is I AM, not I WAS or I WILL BE.  He is present in the "now" and if we are to be with Him, that's where we need to be, too.  Not living in the past or the future, but in the "today", and resting in the assurance of His faithfulness to meet our needs of the day.

Asking Him daily also helps us to remember Who is the giver and who is the one in need of "getting".

Ah, the blessing of manna!  :-)

Jen, we certainly do need reminding of who's the giver around here!

Good to hear from you. Thanks for adding your viewpoint to this blog!

August 16, 2008

I used to go to an online chat bible study a few years back. Whenever I was asked to pray I would always ask that GOD give us this day what we needed and a little extra for those we meet that may have need. That request has become a regular part of my prayer life. I can live on manna but when I meet the hungry soul in day to day life I offer milk and honey and big ol grapes.

Manna was sweet. Easy to find. It was everywhere. No work required. It is easy to get comfortable with where we are. But if the place where we are is not the place GOD wants us to be perhaps it is time to stop wandering in the desert of comfort and take what GOD has for us. The only problem with that is once we leave the land beyond the Red Sea (the wilderness) and "Cross" the Jordan River into the promise (the Promised Land) the manna stops but not GOD's provision. There will be battles to be fought, fields that need workers, governments to be formed. The Captain of our salvation leads the way, the Lord of the Harvest works with us, the increase of His government brings peace.

Mike, this is in no way meant as a rebuttal of what you have shared. Understand and appreciate where you are coming from. How desperately we need GOD's Word. For when we live (not just read) the Word we become the Word to those we interact with. As the saying goes, you may be the only bible some people read. But there is another bible that often is unread...that of other people.

Jesus read this "bible". He saw beyond the surface and into the heart. He was compassionate to the unworthy and hard with the "righteous" (in their own eyes). I never cease to be amazed at the kind of stuff people (often strangers or casual acquaintances) share with me. I guess the fact that I accept people where they are makes them comfortable. I don't get easily offended or righteousy indignant.

Yesterday someone shared some stuff that broke my heart. I hurt for this person and their family. Sin has no limits or boundaries and the innocents suffer wrongly. But even in this I told this person they were so blessed and GOD is working. They cannot see it now but just because they do not see Him does not mean He is not there. I saw a seed of hope planted.

If we can only see beyond the surface, listen beyond the words, and feel their hurt, we will feast all day long on the goodness of the Lord in the lives of others. Jesus said the fields are ripe for harvest but the laborers are few. The world, the church, need us a whole lot more than we need them. The only question is, "Am I willing to be "manna" for others or will I continue to feed myself".

Mike, love you brother.

.....peace.....

My peace I give unto you not as the world gives.

This is the Word of the Lord.  How do we get this peace?  By reading about HIM.

Bless you for posting this.

Gordon, I am sure you've flown before. You know how, as the safety instructions are given at the beginning of the flight, they always tell you "in case of cabin depressurization put your own oxygen mask on first before attempting to help others." I believe this daily feeding is exactly the same. It is important that we be fed ourselves on this spiritual "bread" before we should attempt to assist others.

Thanks for your post. I don't see rebuttal but an alternative point of view, for which I am grateful.
