| Second Thoughts: The Leeks, the Onions & the Garlic... |
|
| |
 Hi y'all,
You know, earlier, as a single woman, I asked a brother whether or not he had "privacy protected" his blog, whereas I had put stipulations on my website, only to discover that when I tried to comment on one of our new sisters' blogs...I could not, as I'm not considered a "friend" yet.
Well, this incident got my mind whirling as I went out to feed my goats and horse, about the title of this artwork that I've posted; how "second thoughts" often plague us all. Christians and non-Christians alike; an example in God's Word of the Children of Israel who also had "second thoughts" (Numbers 11:5-6), and how many "single" Christians that are of the Baby Boomer generation, who'd like to be married or remarried, are actually in bondage to those "second thoughts" to the extent that they create iron bars of their own making...imprisoning themselves out of the fear of "what if," rather then simply trusting the God they claim to trust.
11:5 Sweet is the memory of the fish we had in Egypt for nothing, and the fruit and green plants of every sort, sharp and pleasing to the taste: 11:6 But now our soul is wasted away; there is nothing at all: we have nothing but this manna before our eyes.
11:5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick: 11:6 But now our soul [is] dried away: [there is] nothing at all, beside this manna, [before] our eyes.
Long sentence I know...however, the bondage to a "perspective disorder" is real nonetheless, and it's a stronghold that we ought to pray vehemently against. Either we trust God or we don't. We can't claim to trust Him in one breath, and then in the next, put up all kinds of road blocks under the guise of "praying on it" (as so many Christians often do as a facade, even without knowing it).
We often "lose sight of God's miraculous provision of manna" for us, and rather dwell upon the bondage and enslavement of the "Egypts" in our lives, where we think we had it so much better. What's up with that??? Just like the Children of Israel, forgetting the tyrannial rule that God, through Moses delived them out of, so too we often get caught up in the peer pressures of today's society when facing uncertainty about out maritial status, safety, economy, financial situation, health, job, the stock market, 401k's etc., and thereby allow ourselves to be guilty of the same idol worship that the Israelites were guilty of when they too felt the need to have a relationship with a calve made of gold that was physical and not worship our God in Spirit and Truth. They let their fears eclipse God. Woe is me!
Let's not forget the muck and the mire that the Lord has delivered us from, but remember that our God is in control, on the throne, alive, and able! He will meet out daily need...not our daily greed, so we don't need to have "second thoughts," we just need to trust and obey...as there is no other way! We have to "surrender all" daily!
Thanks for reading...that's all folks!

Well bless you Michael...you're really just too kind. Really. No, Lori and I didn't know anything about the other's post, but I too, did see that common thread, and took it as a confirmation from the Lord that His Word and message were being addressed. So...now that is something for all of us to dwell upon as we say our "now I lay me down to sleep" prayers tonight!
In Christ's love, Sandy |

First: About the artist - Dorsey!
Dorsey used to come in to our restaurant during the 1970's on Cape Hatteras, NC. We owned the General Billy Mitchell Restaurant, which my Mom renamed The Seashell. Dorsey was a long haired freaky hippy guy that we all loved. He had a gentle, quiet spirit and was an excellent artist.
His work, mostly seascapes, sells for top dollar on the Outer Banks, but this is a "doodle" that he carried around in his pocket and worked on as he'd wait for his breakfast and drank his coffee.
He gave this to me, which I gladly accepted. It's titled: Second Thoughts. (actually to increase the price of this original...note that he misspelled "thougths".
Now, here is what an "islander" friend of mine posted about Dorsey:
| islandborn56 says: THATS COOL. The next time Dorsey comes to see me I'm gonna show this to him. He'll get a kick out of how you described him! (which is perfect) and hes still the same. MS Posted 14 months ago. ( permalink | delete ) | | Gator-Girl says:Thanks Melodi, and please let Dorsey know how fond we in my family all were and are, of him.
Tell him my Mom died on July 11, 2006 (7/11 for those who like to roll dice, and she did enjoy the casinos), and she never forgot the positive affects that Dorsey had on each of our lives. Mom really liked him to the very end of her days.
She and I really appreciated all those special moments we all shared on Hatteras during those years when our lives came together and touched. Posted 14 months ago. ( permalink | delete | edit ) |

Hi Lori,
thanks for the suggestion on the shadow box. I'll check it out. I know that when I scanned this in, I was going for the old treasure map look, with the tattered edges.
Any which way, Dorsey is now a very prominent artist, who commands a very high price to obtain his works. I am very honored to have this "doodle."
