| Daily Verse - 1 Peter 4:12-13 |

In a culture where comfort is raised to the level of the chief virtues, this passage is difficult to grasp. As I blog, the temperature in my room is a very nice 72 and I am sipping on some nice cold water that is washing down the comfort food I just ate. The idea of being uncomfortable, much less a "fiery ordeal" is very strange to me. I am quick to ask urgently for relief when life grows just a little bit difficult, yet this ancient letter suggests that relief may not be what I need most.
4:12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to prove you, as though something strange were happening to you. 4:13 But rejoice in so far as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. |
