Awhile ago I happened upon a list of names of God. It had everything from the well known ones like My Redeemer and Bread of Life to ones I’d never heard before, such as God who avenges me and Defender of Widows. One in particular caught my eye: My Hiding Place. Of all the names, that is the one I have seen most recently. How wonderful is that? I wanted to learn more about so I check the verse it referenced, Psalm 32:7
32:7 Thou [art] my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
Through the modern technology of e-Sword, I managed to break this down a little further.
“Thou art my Hiding Place (a cover, literal or figurative; protection), thou shalt preserve (guard or keep hidden) me from trouble (distress, adversary, tribulation); thou shalt compass me about (here’s an interesting one: it can mean lead, make, change, or be around on every side) with songs (a shout of deliverance!) of deliverance (escape). Selah.”
Or, just by replacing the words you get a slight variation:
“You are my Protection. You will guard me from tribulations, You surround me with shouts of deliverance!”
I just love this verse. I love thinking of God in this way. I don’t want to be a part of this world, I need somewhere where I know I am welcome and I can go and be protected. I run to Him, into His open arms and find a Hiding Place in Him. Sweet, sweet peace. I can breathe, I don’t feel like I’m suffocated by worldly things. Ah, deliverance!
I just found that the initial song I wanted was just posted on Youtube, so here's the one I really wanted. It just really captures that feeling of being totally protected by God for me. It's called Crumble to Pieces by Phil Wickham:
So I ask you this: Which name (or names) applies to you and your walk with the Lord right now?
