Our head is like a one drawer filing cabinet. In that drawer (if we are truly born again), exists two files, one has all the information in it that we gathered from the World (half truths, records of failures, etc.), while the other one holds the truths of God. Now just like actual files (that you would find in a filing cabinet), we sometimes put the wrong information in the wrong file, and then store it away. But to have a good filing system, really up to date, well kept, we need to go through the files once in awhile, to ensure the things that are in there, actually belong there. We don't want to be mixing the things of God with the things of the World, or vicesa versa. This is why I think Paul said, "bring every thought into captivity, to the obediance of Christ... (2 Cor.10:5)." We need to be careful what we think. So, to follow the analogy; whatever thoughts we have, come from these two files. We should be asking ourselves, "do these thoughts come from the God file or the World file?" If it's from the World file, put it back and don't act on it. If it's from the God file, believe it and trust God to empower your actions; no matter what. It's interesting that someone pointed out the other day that, "we do not judge ourselves." This is what Paul said about himself and I think this is true, we should not pass judgement on ourselves (condemnation), but we should constantly examine our files, to see if what's in there belongs. I think this also follows Paul's advice in 2 Corinthians 13:5, "Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith (file). Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?" If I could take off from what Paul said just there, I would say, "look at yourself, are you still sinning?, don't you know what file you are pulling that information from? Start pulling the information from the right file, and keep the God file uncorrupted." What do I mean practicaly though? Here is an example: Say, at one time you were a theif, but stealing is a sin, right? Answer: Yes, it is a sin. But now that you are born again, you have all the weapons to stop the thought of stealing (stop the thought and prevent the action). So first the thought begins: A store cashier has given you the wrong change, you have the thought, "go ahead and take it," the old thought says. But apply the examination question to it, "does this thought come from the God file or the World file?" Answer: The World file. So what do you do? Answer: "Sorry ma'am you've given me the wrong change..." (sometimes followed by), "Thank you God that I don't have to do those things anymore; but I can reckon myself dead to sin and alive to you (Rom.6:11), Thank you. Amen." This is what's wrong with many of us, before we understand this information (our New Idenity). Oh, on the outside we might look like we have a form of Godliness, but we deny His power, because we mix in the World files with the God files. We have so many records of wrongs in the God file, and/or so many ways to change what God's word says, that we do not believe He has the power to back up His word in our next experience, because we believe we are sinners, who must continue to sin. That is the wrong information in the God file. Sinful nature, sins, flesh thoughts, they all go in the World file, not in the God file. You are dead to the World, as Paul said. So, we need to pull the right information from the God file and keep that file uncorrupted by not putting failures in there, or reconstructing what God's word says. God can do what He has said, and He asks us to believe it, no matter what we might have done an hour ago, or how unbelieveable it might seem. Just put that failure or watered down word, back into the World file and believe God! It's just like setting the trip odometer (on your car), back to zero. Start every mile with, "I am Dead To Sin and alive to you Lord, Thank you." Say, "I will from this moment on reckon myself dead to sin and agree with You, that you have the power to destroy every firey dart that is hurled at me from the evil one. I will not expect to sin again, because your power is greater than what he can hurl. Thank you, Amen." It's almost unbelieveable how many people have a corrupted God file, they even boast when they say they are still sinners who WILL sin again. All I can say is, we must believe we are dead to sin (Rom.6:11). R... |
