It is said that colors have meanings to people and also affects their emotions. Whether this is true or not....Suga gave me a crayon color to be. We know that God gave us all the colors. And last night lying in bed, I was thinking about the color that Suga gave me, and picturing my friends on here and what color I would give them. I paint, so color does have alot of meaning to me. God is the ultimate artist and I'm looking forward to fall in the mountains here....the beautiful colors that He gave me to enjoy.

Have you watched a child sit down to color. They normally will pick their favorite color to do the page....or if they're doing it for you, they want to know your favorite color.

I get different reactions to the colors in my home.....from deep red walls, to golden walls, to chocolate walls, to deep purple walls.......I love color.

Here's something on color I found:

Color is considered one of the most useful and powerful design tools you have. People respond to different colors in different ways, and these responses take place on a subconscious, emotional level. In our American culture, black has long been associated with death, while white is believed to signify life and purity. In the Orient, however, white is the traditional color of mourning. In the United States, black has also come to suggest sophistication and formality. Americans generally associate trust an stability with the color blue, while Koreans have this reaction to pink and other pastel colors.

In the Western Culture:

Purple and gold are often associated with Royalty, wealth and opulence

Red, White and Blue reminiscent of the American flag, immediately convey notions of patriotism and, to some extent, conservatism.

Green has taken on a very strong connotation as the color representing ecology and concern for the environment, however, it also conveys meanings associated with money and the suggestion "to go ahead" which is obviously derived from traffic lights.

Colors represent holidays and seasons of the year.

The Fall foliage colors of Red, orange, yellow, and brown are clearly expressive of Thanksgiving. Halloween: Orange and Black. Red and Green represent Christmas. Purple and Yellow and other pastels colors represent Easter.

Blue, Red, White and Grey = Stability, Power, Trustworthiness, Conservatism

Yellow, Brown, Orange, Green = Nature, earthiness, warmth

Red, Orange, yellow = more warmth

Blues and Aquas = water and coolness

Primary colors (Red, Blue, Yellow) = Convey fun

Color symbolism in Zulu beading.
Young girls learned bead work and the meaning of the symbols and colors used from their older sisters. The bead work was usually worn as a head or neck band. Men depended on female relatives to explain the code. The patterns and colors can also tell what region a woman comes from and what her social standing is.

Native American Color Symbolism

Colors in Native American culture often symbolize different things from
culture to culture....African cultures have different meanings....and
so on. Colors symbolize different qualities in various European cultures.

The Four Directions
Colors were associated with the four directions.
Blue represented North which meant cold, defeat and trouble.
White was South representing warmth, peace and happiness.
Red was East, the color of the Sacred Fire, blood, and success.
West was black the color meaning problems and death.
Other colors also had special meanings.
Brown was good but yellow meant trouble and strife.

Navajo Meanings of Colors

The Four Sacred Mountains and directions are associated with colors. The Navajos belief is that their Creator placed them on the land between the following 4 mountains representing the 4 cardinal directions:

White: Mount Blanca (Tsisnaasjini' - Dawn or White Shell Mountain) Sacred Mountain of the East near Alamosa in San Luis Valley, Colorado

The principal colors, white, blue, yellow and black are linked to the four sacred mountains as well as the directions- Red is often considered a sacred color and represents sunlight. (source for this is off line now)

White Mountain Apaches

Four sacred colors of the White Mountain Apaches in east central Arizona contrast
interestingly with the Cherokee colors:
White represents the north, source of snow
Yellow is east, where the sun comes up
Green is south
Black is west, home of the sun's setting
These colors are used in a variety of settings, from the tribal government

The Flag of the Flag of the Iowa Nation
The color of the streamers brings together the four primary
colors in Native American art, the black, yellow, red and white. These

Color Therapy - Color and the Brain

Specific colors have different effects (list copied from Biopulse.org)
Black: self-confidence, power, strength
Blue: calming, lowers blood pressure, decreases respiration
Green: soothing, relaxing mentally as well as physically, helps those suffering from depression, anxiety, nervousness
Violet: suppresses appetite, provides a peaceful environment, good for migraines
Pink: used in diet therapy as an appetite suppressant, relaxes muscles, relieves tension, soothing
Yellow: energizes, relieves depression, improves memory, stimulates appetite
Orange: energizes, stimulates appetite and digestive system
Red: stimulates brain wave activity, increases heart rate, respirations and blood pressure.....

I know some people are saying this is evil or new age stuff......but we wear colors everyday and why do we pick out the colors we wear? Why do we decorate our homes with color or buy a painting?

So, what I'm getting at is what's your favorite color and what color crayon do you see yourself as? An example of myself is that I used to have very low esteem, and still struggle with it....my closet was filled with black, gray, and navy.......then I realized it wasn't me.....now it's filled with bright colors.....

Today I am wearing a white shirt and a blue red and baige mickey mouse tie with cacky pants. I am a blue person...tend be a lighter blue than a navy blue. What do you think? Good research by the way.

Well Cindy I think I already shared with you that I'm a RED kind of gal...smile....I LOVE RED....because it reminds me of the BLOOD OF JESUS...(smile)...and then with the blood..I love to put purple and royal blue....cuz I'm a KINGS KID.....You feel me ;o)

Ohh by the way....Got on a RED BLOUSE right now..and sporting some RED SANDLES.. BLACK SKIRT... .LOL...LOL

Since earth tones are still in, I am wearing kaki green docker pants and a polo shirt that is .... um, well sort of mixed earth tones.... (you'd think I was color blind or something, lol)

My favorite color has always been orange, but I don't know if that means anything since there are so many different versions of color symbolisms above. Yes, this is a fun blog!

I'm with Mr. Mike on this one...gotta love the orange of course I would have never of guessed that for him...and yes...my spitfire is an obvious red!

I see my Val as Yellow she's like my sunny shine...(but shhh...don't tell her) and
I see my Bubs as rainbow just because she is a bit of everything...calming one minute, enegetic and on fun, so we'll just call her tiedyed...
I see my Patti as pink which really is just a lighter shade of red...but you know...

You've done good here Lou...btw, I am actually wearing black pajama pants and a black teeshirt, but maybe I'll go change now. :)

Wow! Three oranges in a row....and I have a daughter n love who is an orange too! Orange is a good feeling color to me!!!!! Ahhhhhhh, the warmth of the sun is what it reminds me of.......so, I guess y'all warm my heart!

I like green too...and thanks Lou!!! But you know purple is also a fav. of mine...my kitchen is done in purple and green...wine and grapes...and my living room is mostly gold and deep red...but my pictures are a bronzy orangish color...that's why autumn is my fav. season...the rich colors, and you being right down the road know the brilliance that Arkansas holds come fall...that's what I like...no LOVE about this place...the canvas of color... :)

My "comfort" colors are blues and greens -- water and the woods! :) And if I was a crayon, I would be Midnight Blue. I love the colors of nature -- buttery yellow, sand, wheat, stormy skies, mossy green, tree frog green! :) (and that's just a small sample)

If I was to be a crayon, it would be Crayola Tropical Rain Forest...teal is my favorite color...but I love reds, blues, browns, greens, purples, pinks...pretty much everything except yellow and certain shades of orange... Great post Cindy!!!

I found this and thought it's interesting!

In Christianity, color symbolism is primarily used in liturgical decorations (banners, vestments, etc.) and to a lesser degree in Christian art. Symbolic colors are rarely used in the Bible.

Black is symbolic of death, and is therefore the liturgical color for Good Friday. Black can also represent sin, which results in death.

Blue, the color of the sky, is symbolic of heaven. It may also be used to symbolize truth. Blue is gaining acceptance as a liturgical color for Advent.

Brown is the color of spiritual death and degradation.

Gray is the color of ash, so is sometimes used to represent repentance and may be used during Lent.

Green is the color of plant life, abundant in spring. It is used to represent the triumph of life over death. Green is the liturgical color for the Trinity season in some traditions, and may be used during Epiphany in others.

Purple is the color for penitence and mourning. It is also the color of royalty. Purple is the liturgical color for the seasons of Advent and Lent.

Yes it is that silvery lavender...I think they call it frost magenta or something like that. In bright light it is lavendar and all other times it is silver.

I see that Turquoise is now called "Happily Ever After" (???)This is just plain wrong...

We learn something as kids and then they go changing the names of the Crayons! This has to be the reason my kids sometimes look at me like I'm crazy... LOL!

LV: thanks! I have always put colors with people.....I can see something in a store and because of the color I say " ohhhhhhhhh this looks like so-n-so!" I will put you in Blue when I get home :)

That does sound wrong.....asking a child " What color are you coloring the trees?" Child replies " Happily Ever After"......I would still not know the color!!!!!!!!
