| Looking Back |

Hello,
I know that many of you folks here are young and I'd like to share something with you--just a bit of wisdom. I'm not sure why but over my entire life, I have never liked the physical body the Lord provided me with. I have always been very critical of myself and as I look back, I should have been Thankful for the body I had and have. I've had many physical challenges but there are so many folks who are worse off than myself. I should have listened to my sweet Granny when I was little. I used to cry because my ears were too big and kids made fun of me. Granny used to say, "Honey don't pay any attention to those kids, just be happy you can hear. I know plenty of folks who would trade you beautiful ears for ears that can hear."
My Granny was not only beautiful but she had the most positive outlook on life I have ever seen. Granny was chubby and at times nearly obese yet what I really remember about her is her beautiful blue eyes, her wonderful sense of humor, her ability to make up a story for the kids at a moment's notice, and the fact that she never made a negative comment about herself to anyone. I believe she was happy with the body God gave her though it was far from perfect. One time her sisters were trying to make her jealous and as they all sat in the stands at the loal rodeo, they noticed my Gramps talking to a very attractive woman near the fence. Right away they said to Granny, "My look at your Willie talking to that beautful woman down near the fence." Grany's comment was, " I see that and she has on my favorite color---pink." No way was she going to let her sister get to her. She knew Gramps loved her no matter what and he was crazy about her till the day he died. Granny was blessed with wisdom some of us take years to learn. Beauty comes from the inside not the outside!
One thing I really regret is that I love water and I love to swim. I can't tell you the times I missed going in the water and just having fun because I was afraid of what people might say about me. I know I gave up fun times with my kids and I always coaxed my Hubby to wait to swim until everyone had left the pool.
Looking back, I can see that what people thought of me or how I looked really doesn't matter because beauty comes from the inside, from our hearts and the physical body is just a vessel to carry our hearts around in.
In closing, appreciate what you do have, don't worry about what other's think, and enjoy yourself. We only get one shot at life and make sure you spend your tme enjoying what the Good Lord gave you--not fussing about what He didn't give you.
Theses lyrics in a song done by Lee Ann Womack say it all!
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder, You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger, May you never take one single breath for granted, GOD forbid loveever leave you empty handed, I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one doorcloses I hope one more opens, Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance, Never settle for the path of least resistance Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin', Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin', Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter, When you come close to sellin' out reconsider, Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. (Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along, Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one doorcloses I hope one more opens, Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
Dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance..
3:2 For we all make many mistakes, and if any one makes no mistakes in what he says he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. |
