Wanna know just WHO God is? He’s told us!! The above is virtually every definitive “God is” statement from the bible (NIV). There are also many verses containing “The Lord is…” or “He is…” The point is, he WANTS us to know who he is!!
Feel free to suggest any others you know of that you don’t see here, including book/chap/verse for reference. Praise him, for God is worthy!
ps… notably absent from the bible are - God is wrath God is intolerant God is vengeful God is very demanding and hard to please God is capricious God is easy going God is forgetful God is absent minded God is fickle God is hot tempered ...among others! |

Good one Linda, thanks! Rom 2:11
NIV - "For God does not show favoritism." KJV - "For there is no respect of persons with God." NASB - "For there is no partiality with God."
Meaning we all have an equal opportunity to know God and walk with him, from the richest of us to the poorest! (Calvinism aside for the moment) |

Good comment Dee Dee. Maybe the next list should be the "I AM" list! (Todd would appreciate that too!)
Oh Joey!
Becky, I found 697 instances of "love" in the NIV (763 in the NLT/paraphrase), 683 in the ESV, 494 in the NKJV, 484 in the NASB, and 442 in the KJV. (Why so many fewer in the KJV? Did they use a different word for love back in the days of merry olde England???) By comparison, "wrath" shows up 190 times in the NIV and 197 in the KJV. Well, I guess it's comforting that God isn't getting any angrier! |

| MMM... about that forgetfull thingy, after we ask for forgiveness, doesn't he forget our sins? |
|
|
| September 03, 2008 |
 |
|
|
| lol... Patti, honestly what I had in mind was, God does not forget his promises. But...since you mentioned it, I know God says he will "remember their sins no more." (Jer 31:34, Isa 43:25) But we can't honestly believe that God, who is all knowing, will somehow forget they happened. I believe (and I think most commentators agree) the general thought is that he will never bring them up again as a basis for judgment or wrath. They are as good as forgotten. Does this sound fair? :-) |
