Just look at the first part of this verse..."Walk in love..." How often do we go about our days saying that we hate this or that we hate that...? I'm just as guilty as the next person of doing this, especially since I deal with a lot of rude individuals at school everday and a lot of lousy food that makes me miss my mother's cooking (which isn't very good, so that's saying something about the food here...). I have also found that the word love is throw around almost nonchalantly these day. We say that we love a particular song or movie, which meres means a like it a whole heck of a lot. But I think that the word "Love" has lost a lot of its meaning over the past decade or so. And its a very sad thing to think about. We are called to love our neighbors and to love God and Jesus. But, I think there are those out there who simply love them like they love their favorite pizza toppings (mine just so happens to be extra cheese and pepperoni). We cannot just like God a lot, a lot, but we need to love Him with everything that we are. And we also need to do this with those around us. And by doing so, I believe that we share the joy of Christ with those we share our love with. This is me basically saying that we all need to just take a step back and think about whether we love God and Jesus, and His people for that matter, in the manner in which we are called to do so. Or, do we just love them as we love, as I said before, our favorite pizza toppings...? So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that we should all proceed with Love, not proceed with Like-A-Lot. 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. |
