Ahh...another heart verse! 8:2, I have spent much time and research on this topic- (for those of you that do follow my study I will not go into major detail here :0) I must make a 'free write' thoughtfull comment on this verse in particular- This verse puzzled me for some time - God always knows whats in my heart? Why would He have to test it? I can't fool God- He knows, right?? I understand Him wanting me to be a man of my word- (out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks,,,) but on further thought, the scripture points out "that he might humble you" and to me the only way a person can truly be "humbled" is by them personally seeking out whats in their own heart- the work is really once again on the individual to do the work- deal with the heart, seek out the heart and change the hearts goals if it does not line up with God then make it do so with a strong gaol of possesing it, remembering what it can do when it is not submissive.
8:1 "All the commandment which I command you this day you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers. 8:2 And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not. 8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD. |
