i believe that the humbling of the heart is so important here because it speaks of trust. The Lord allows us to go thru things and trust that He is ultimately our provider. whether the Isrealites knew this at the beginning of the journey or not, i don't believe that they would have been able to trust the Lord in taking the promise land if their faith and trust had not been built up. the 40 years was for them not for God. Lots of times we tend to say we trust the Lord to have our backs but at those extremely difficult times that we have no control over, out of our mouths comes our real heart that sometimes can lack the trust and faith in the Lord that he can pull us out of it.
we see this in the Isrealites time and time again. out of their mouths comes a message of fear and doubt.
the important thing is to set our goals into submission to God, focusing on all the times that the unexplained mana fell on us to sustain us, and not going thru 40 years of the same thing until we finally pass that level in our lives. Humbleness reminds us that we are not in control and we were preprogramed to have need God to meet our needs and because he made us with that purpose we need to embrace it and not fight against it. trust it and have faith that he is the perfect guide.

I caught myself doing something different because of this study- my body even responded in the same manner- (but because my heart has changed I had to verbally put it under submission) Things all around me are changing and others- family and even friends are having a difficult time adjusting to this inner now outter change- it is affecting even my children... I imagine that the same thing happened with the Isrealites.... It started with one person, than another, down to his children then cousins, in laws, then... it builds out but it takes time--- God wants to do that with us
I beleive that we are in the end times and he is calling us all together and we all need to "bond" in one like manner- it needs to be a heart bond! I see it happening but I do not think we have 40 years to get there... it is still a transfering and it is still weird, and cool and lonely and awesome.

Note: I do not want to be missunderstood on the "lonely" part of my statement- so I will say it is lonely in the sense of sometimes it is just me or just me and I am grabbing my five boys and we are "hidding out" and just having moments of prayer and discussion of how we "get to be different" because God has called us to be different- regaurdless of the circumstance (my young men are doing so well that they are even keeping me in check out of love! - My youngest set of twins both called me on something out of love without either one knowing the other did... I hear them doing it even with each other... I have 5 teenage boys- reflecting heart change here at home, taking it to school etc... and ... well it does matter if you think about it.
