| Needing a verse/needing Gods word |

The parallels are amazing here. I can't count the number of times in the last 31 years that I have been stumbling through the wilderness looking for a REASON, needing desperately an ANSWER, trying to SOLVE the problem... (I'm always trying to SOLVE the problem) Trying to make my own words have power, and force (as I still often do today) when in truth its GOD's PLAN, and GOD's Word that leads us and sustains us.
I don't know about those of you who are reading this entry, but I will speak for myself and say that I have read the Bible, many times over, and yet I have few verses memorized, and reading it is never boring. Each time I read the Bible (ALMOST daily) there is something that I NEVER NOTICED before... Not that I don't recall it being there, or maybe sometimes I don't, but that it seems like its the very first time that I have understood it or gleaned anything from it. I often wonder at the miracle of the Lord, who reminds me that he is in control when I so desperately seem to be trying to undermine that control. Or how he provides everything I need despite my own sick wanton desire for every possible thing that i not only do not deserve but certainly don't need. I see many times over that God has allowed things that I have had to go to the wayside just so I could learn that I can do without them, and to see what is really important.
My friend Bob from church was recently asked to give a sermon while our Cpts. (pastor and his wife) were away on a much needed vacation. Because of his past the Lord has created in him a new and very regimented lifestyle of study, meetings and service at the salvation Army. He considered it a great honor to have been asked to give the Sunday Worship Service (as would most Christians) and began to diligently plan his sermon. He was looking things up on his computer and doing heavy research when the worst possible thing could happen-HE WAS ATTACKED BY A VIRUS AND LOST EVERYTHING! Poor guy! Initially he told us that he assumed it was Satan up to his tricks again, but after having to do more leg work and study and having to delve into the word (by hand, from scratch, the old fashioned way) he seemed to conclude that God may have allowed the virus. He was to get more intimate with the WORD OF GOD and prepare a more personal sermon.
I'm glad to report that the sermon went pretty well, it didn't have bells and whistles but it was more like a conversational and intimate experience with our Lord and Savior.
If only we could stay focused on what the Lord wants us to do all of the time....
8:1 "All the commandment which I command you this day you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers. 8:2 And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not. 8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD. |
