1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. 1:6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth; 1:7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. Well, here's another verse for you. Actually, there are three. This message is heard from Jesus, God is light. What does that mean? It means God is truth, and in truth is the light of faith and love. Darkness cannot exist in the bright light of truth, faith and love. You cannot be walking in the dark if you have a fellowship with God, only if we walk in the light do we walk with Him and the blood shed on the cross by Jesus the Son of God cleansed each and every one of us from all sins.
This act, the act of the crucifixion, the loss of His blood and then the baptism of the water from Jesus' body dissolved the Ten Commandments for, so long as we do our best to live in the understanding of just who Christ is and work in the Light that is Jesus Christ, we are SAVED. Amy Grant sings a song titled I Have Decided. The first line says "I have decided I'm gonna live like a believer, turn my back on the deceiver, I'm gonna live what I believe." These words are precisely what we should be doing, every day of our lives. We have to believe that Jesus is the light, He is the way, and the truth, and we should always follow Him. There is no darkness if we follow Jesus and God with the Holy Spirit. Fellowship with each other exists fully in this light that brings us closer to God and Jesus. Fellowship in truth is a powerful thing.
