| To Know Him By Name..... |

I recently started Bible College and just wanted to share this with everyone.
Lesson Four in the class Authority of the Believer, is called Knowing Him By Name. This lesson of all the lessons we have had so far really hit home with me.
God wants us to have a relationship with him, and said to put him first in everything. You can find it in the Bible in Ephesians 5:22-28, which refers to Jesus Christ being the head of the church, and mentions the roles of husbands and a wives. Also in Colossians 3:16-19. Loving God more than all family members and all relatives is found in Matthew 10:35-38.
But do we really do that? Here are some of the questions we were asked. You decide. What is your limit to knowing God? How far will you go? What will you do to know him? Do we schedule everything around God? or God around everything?
One of the words we studied was the Greek word Koinonia, it means to communicate, to participate, to communion, joint participation, sharing and intimacy. Much like a marriage. I have heard many people say they are married to God first, and it never really made sense until this class.
Well this really got me thinking. My husband, he is a very thoughtful guy. And although he is not the kind to bring home expensive chocolates or flowers all the time. When he goes to the store and buys a candy bar for me, I really appreciate the thought. But what if I didn't. What if I ignored all his attempts to be kind to me. What if I stopped talking to him, went for days without speaking to him. When your married you love the person so much that you, go out of your way to do nice things for them, spend time with them and you just love them all the time. Even when your stressed out because nothing is going right. Why, because you know that your spouse will do everything in his power to make it ok, to make you happy.
Ok so, God does all those things for me everyday, 24/7 365 days a year and never takes a break or needs his own space. He is the one constant thing in my life, the one I can always count on. So why would I ever deprive Him of time? Why would I ever put Him second? If I don't communicate with him and spend time with Him, how will I ever know Him better? It really showed me just how important knowing Him is.
Bible college rocks. I would recommend that everyone take at least one class. Just to see what its like. You learn so much.
A note to all the ladies going to the Ladies Retreat: God has something really good for us. This is our chance to just spend time with Him. No kids, husbands dishes, laundry for 2 days just you and God! What a great chance to know Him better. It's gonna be awesome! |
