To understand how far off  the Christian path psychology is we need to look at the belief systems of the fathers of psychology.  Remember this verse from the Word of GOD has you read about them.Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodlySigmund Freud He was addicted to morphine, later he used cocaine to kick the opium habit. He also persuaded his patients to use it also. He came up with a process to interpret the patients so called defenses and transferences. This affirmed a concept that sinful human beings universally hold dear-they are not responsible for their actions, someone else is to blame! They are never confronted to be held responsible for their behavior. Note: We are held responsible for our sin and cannot shift the blame onto some hidden event. Freud hated the idea of GOD and especially the GOD of the Jews and His Son. He viewed religious behavior as its best a “neurosis”. Freud was a metaphysical materialist and did not believe man possessed a soul. He also had a sexual fixation on his mother and thought most problems in man arose from man wanting to have incest with their mother.  Yes,this man was one of the founding fathers of contemporary psychatic thought and therepy. His material has to be learned in order to get your degree and licended whether secular or Christian. The next major player in psychology we will look at is Carl Jung.
