| Life is Meaningless |

Since losing my best buddy, my cat Zagnut, I have been thinking more about death. Specifically, all the people and animals that have already died and gone on to the next realm. I have also been thinking of all the people in my life who will more than likely die before me (because they are older, and barring any unforeseen illness or accident to me). So many do not have a personal relationship with God. And I know I have not done enough to try to convince them they need to pursue a relationship with Him. That is something I need to work on.
This thought process I have been having points out to me that life is meaningless without God. You have only to read Solomon's words in Ecclesiastes to discover how meaningless everything is. (Make sure you read the whole book of Ecclesiastes, because the ending tells you so much!) Our main purpose on this earth is to fear God and keep His commandments. Yet so many don't believe in God, don't have personal relationships with Him. And how many of us have broken a commandment, or two or three? If we were to rely on our own performance to get to Heaven, none of us would make it! There are probably many more people than I can fathom who have not read the bible, or studied it to learn the true meaning of life. They don't probably don't even know what it takes to get to Heaven. Nor do they care.
I have people in my life now, who think that if they just believe in God, that is enough to get them to heaven. Sorry folks, that is not enough! You must accept the bible as the true word of God, that Jesus was His Son, sent to die for our sins. You must seek His forgiveness, be baptized, change your heart and live for God and not yourself.
I cannot imagine living in this world without the loving relationship I have with God. Yet I did, for a long time. And I was so lost. Lost like so many people in this world. God calls out to all the lost. But we don't all choose to listen. Thankfully, I did. And now I can't imagine life without God. Can't imagine DEATH without God. Can't imagine how people can live without Him and still find meaning to their lives. Life is meaningless without God, and death will be even worse for those who don't know Him. |

Everything is meaningless says the preacher. I love that book and you nailed it on the head!! Fear God and keep His commandments this is the whole duty of man.
I agree with you how can we live without a good relationship with God? Life is so much better with him than without Him. I know you are greiving your friend, just keep your focus on the good things and the blessing you have. Take care, and God Bless Todd. |

Deb,
I am sorry you lost Zagnut! I do know how it feels!
Your thoughts on your blogs amaze me at the likeness we seem to share about so much. I agree with you so much in your thoughts about this subject. You also tend to blog about things that inspire me to "think on these things".
Keep up the great blogs, Deb! |

Deb, I did a double take when I saw the title. LOL, you pulled a Solomon on me!
Indeed, w/o God there would be little purpose to living. I suppose "the common good" sounds nice, but then who defines "common" and who defines "good". (i.e. many groups would vie for their own interests, and of course that would quickly become a mess)
Unbelievers don't trace the logic progression of their thoughts, "if there was no God." And others who quote believe in God unquote, are worse b/c they live with a god of their own making, rather than have any meaningful relationship with the one true God! If belief isn't accompanied by the doing that the bible admonishes, then is there really any belief at all? (no)
Great blog sister. Thanks for your consistent stand for the truth! |

Deb, it makes me crazy too, when people think that all they have to do is believe in God to get to heaven. They'll refer to someone that has just passed away and say that they are in a better place...well, did they repent of their sins, accept Christ as their Lord and Saviour? Because that's the only way!! Drives me nuts! For instance, someone will say "There's a special place in heaven" for some one who does good works, like Angelina Jolie or somebody. No there's not! Jesus is the way to heaven, not living a good life, not doing good things, not being a good person (although those should all be side effects of having Jesus in your heart)! Sorry, LOL...this is a sore subject with me! Carol |

Brother Todd, I love that book too, and so many people think it is depressing. But it tells about life, and then it tells us what we need in our lives! God! Thanks for your comments on the loss of my cat. I am just taking it one day at a time.
Yahschild, I haven't heard from you in a while so I was pleased to see a comment from you! If my blogs make you think, then that is my goal and I am succeeding! Thanks for your comments as well, about Zagnut. I really miss him, but I will get through with God's help.
Mike, I knew that title might throw a few people off. Gotta shake things up once in a while! lol But what you say is true. Many people have god's of their own making, but they will not ever find true happiness, or fulfullment or peace in this life or the next, unless they have a relationship with the true God of the Bible.
Carol, it is a sore subject with me, too, so no harm done! There are a lot of people who are going to die and be surprised when they get to the gates of Heaven and God will say "I never knew you". |

| Amen! Sounds like you are really starting to understand the will of God! Sometimes it is through rough experiences that we learn and understand God's mercy. |

Sorry about Zagnut. I'm sure you gave him a good home. Good message, too. There's no casual belief in God. Come to think of it, there's believing in Him and then there's trusting Him to turn over one's life to Him. |

| So true! When I watch TV and they ignore or insult God, TV is meaningless. When I listen to the radio and the words to the songs leave God out and only focus on physical relations or empty emotions, radio is meaningless. When I hear the news, politicians, business leaders, educators and even preachers do their thing and not God's thing, it's empty and meaningless. Only the things of God have any real meaning. |

Prophet Jay, I definitely agree that we learn more through the difficult times. No one ever wants to go through them, but sometimes we don't have a choice, and we will always learn from them.
Jen, thank you for your words about Zagnut. People can know about Jesus, and then they can believe and trust in Him. There is a difference.
MaKelly, I am glad that I have a personal relationship with Him as well.
Lara, I won't take offense. lol I think the word is very appropriate!
racunpoodle, thank you!
rebekah, thank you as well.
Kathy, I am honored that you were inspired by this blog to write one of your own. And I read the one you wrote, and it is very good.
Grant, Amen! I couldn't have said it better myself! |

Good blog, Deb! Ecclesiastes is an awesome book; I love going back to it time and time again. Your blog reminds me of one I wrote awhile ago, Death, taken mostly from Eccles. as well. This is a subject that hits close to home. Tomorrow, I'm going to a funeral. |

| Jen, I have decided that I am going to re-read Ecclesiastes again. I have come across a lot of references to it in the past couple of weeks, and figure God is wanting me to read it again. Sorry about the funeral that you have to attend. Not ever an easy thing to do, but a part of life for us all. |
