The Church Shift
Acts 2:42-47 is a picture of the Church alive. What was so different then that is not true today? Why is the Church struggling? What can we do about it? Today's Service will give me an opportunity to deal with the changes that must take place if we are to be the Church alive. To begin with we must understand that there are three primary shifts that must take place if we are to be the Church:
1. We must move from an "Internal Emphasis to an External Shift." 2. We need to focus from "Program Driven to People Development." 3. The major shift is from Church-based leadership to a "Kingdom Movement." Today we will concentrate on the first important shift, moving from internal emphasis to an external shift. Seven areas to concider:
1. We are too often "Church-centric," when in reality we need to be "Kingdome Focused." The kingdom of God must be our center. 2. We are "Destination-minided," in other words, get them to church, that is our score card. We need to think in terms of cannection. 3. Evangelism is important, however, we have been called to "Go into the world..." The key is discipleship making. 4. The Church today attempts to be attractive to the world, while we are called to be Incarnation. 5. Membership oriented culture needs to shift to a missional mind-set. 6. Ministers focus on the Proclamation when Jesus taught Demonstration. 7. Lastly, the Church has become Institutional when in reality we need to Engaging in peoples lives. |
