Where are you, Christian family? Where are the Christians who used to go door to door and invite me to church, or just visit with me a while? Where are the Christians who keep their promises in front of the church (to shepherd the newly saved)? Where are the Christians who used to go to hospital rooms and pray for the sick and dying, or go to the homes of the sick and take food, or pray for them? We think that "go in to all the world and preach the Gospel" is just for preachers and missionaries to do, don't we? We think that it is not our job to "encourage one another", and that encouragement is a special gift from God, not realizing that one kind word IS encouragement!!!! We walk down our city streets with a pouty look on our faces, and can't even muster a "HELLO!" as we pass by strangers. We don't want to give a beggar a dollar, because we worry that they will buy booze or drugs. When we see a crime, or have information about one, we don't tell the authorities, because we, "don't want to get involved." When we suspect a child is being molested, we close our eyes and ears to it, instead of JUMPING to that defenseless child's aid. We are told by God to defend the defenseless, but DO WE? Do we stand up for the person who is being picked on?
YES, we ARE our brothers' keepers!!!! We are to help people. Help an old lady across the street, call the law when we see a crime being committed, encourage the down and out, protect the children, tell the truth, be honest in all our dealings, visit the sick, visit the lonely, etc...............
God puts an opportunity before us EVERY DAY OF OUR LIVES. An opportunity to demonstrate LOVE (His love), and to tell someone the Good News (that Jesus loves them), and to encourage each other, and lift up the hurting. Just as we don't blush at sin anymore, we turn our backs to the fact that we have opportunities that we just don't take, and we turn our backs to the fellowship and friendships that await us. How many church dinners have we went to and sat with someone who no one else will sit with? How many of us will reach outside our comfort zones to demonstrate LOVE?
It may be a sad world we live in, but it is an even sadder spiritual world that we have chosen to live in. The spirit is hurting. God help us all! |
