Seven years ago I was sitting in my office when my colleague came in saying his wife called him and told him a plane had crashed into one the twin towers. Visions of a single engine King-Kong plane came into my head. What fool goofed and killed himself, I thought. Then the TV went on and for all practical purposes the day stopped. Why Jesus, did this happen? What was your purpose? I couldn't figure it out, I searched the scriptures for meaning, went to church the next night (Wednesday) for answers, and by the way, it was the first time I had seen that many people in church and it wasn't a Sunday. We were all seeking answers, to a question we didn't even know how to ask. That night we prayed, so lesson, no sermon, just prayer, prayer for wisdom and guidance, prayer for families and friends, prayer for forgiveness and yes prayer for God's leading to halt the evil that took so many lives and effected so many more. Two verses I found since then Psalms 119:169 119:169 TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word. and Revelations 18:17-19 18:17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, 18:18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What [city is] like unto this great city! 18:19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. Today, seven years latter, terrorist still threaten us on a daily basis, people live in this country wanting to harm it and us in any way they can. Yes, I had to give up some of my freedom, but our country had founders that were willing to give up their lives for freedom, and many did. Today we go on on lives talking the presidential election, the war in the mid-east, and local current events. Today the church is half the congregation it was seven years ago, today people may remember what happened seven years ago, but people today forget that their live have an ending time also. The victims of 9/11 didn't know that that was their last day, we don't know if today is our last day, but 9/11 reminds us it could be. I have two questions for each of you reading this. First have you reminded or asked anyone today if they know what day it is? And Second Have you told anyone that like those of the 9/11 tragedy have an ending date and if they know for certain it was their last day where they would be for eternity? God took 3,000 souls (more or less) and effected millions more. We don't know for sure which are in Heaven and which, when the lamb's book of life was opened ended in hell, but today, of all days, God has given you and I a chance to use 9/11 as a day to populate His kingdom. Remember 9/11 and remember who's son was given up so we may have eternal life. TGIF (today God is first) ken |
