A post by brother Steve about his experience in Litttle Rock, Arkansas brought to mind a very famous picture from that time. I do not remember if I had posted this before and if so please forgive me. The picture was a turning point in the life of a young lady that day. I wonder if we could see the reflection of our faces sometimes if we would change? The players here are Elizabeth Eckford and Hazel Massery. Young Elizabeth was one of the Little Rock Nine, chosen to intergrate Central High School that year. Only, when all the others went to school that day, she was given the wrong time. Here she is seen walking in all alone and terribly afraid. There is one young lady, among many, spewing venomous hatred that day (Hazel Massery, with mouth wide open) and the moment is frozen in time. The story is told by her that the picture itself convicted her soon thereafter. She wondered just why she felt so much anger at another human. According to her, she felt so much shame, she sought out Eckford some years later and asked for forgiveness. They are friends to this day. My God is an awesome God! One of the good stories that came from a turbulent time in our history. But God is able! |

| I just really can't understand it......the benefit of this post to me is that it reinforces the oneness of all us silly humans, by highlighting contrived, imaginary differences. Oh the shame of it! |

| And to think they were not yelling at the girl with the Easter purse thing she was carrying....You know isn't it silly what we as humans set up that matters...whether it be the color of our skin, what we wear, where we live, how much money we make, and the list goes on and on and on doesn't it...Great blog... |

Mike,
Oh the humanity of loving and caring for one another.
Loriinfj,
You must really study photos like I do to notice that purse. I can remember looking at this photo when I was and studying it hours. I wondered why that girl had so much hate and what the other girl, so afraid, was thinking. |
