| What Me Worry? Psalm 62:8 |

Alfred E Neuman of Mad magazine etched the phrase "What Me Worry?" in my mind when I was 14 in 1979. Strange enough, thirty years later these words along with Alfred's face, popped in my mind as I attempted to phase out Fox New's talk about the latest financial crisis of Lehman Brothers and focus on my morning meditation with the help of Pastor Leo Geovinetti. I reflected on where I am today in my life with God and where I came from...My lack a worry over finances were firmly planted as a godless, un-saved, liberal minded, pot-smoking, Sociology major in the "me decade" of the 1980's. I was virtually unaware of Black Monday in 1987 and the economic recession of the early 1990's. Ignorance was Bliss! Although my lifestyle, and mindset have ironically swung from the radical left to the right of center...I have to ask myself...why worry that Lehman Bros, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have gone belly up when I have God. In Mat 6:24-34 , when Jesus says, “do not worry about your life,” he is not saying don't be smart with your money, He is saying "trust in God". Trust that if your keep your life focused on God, there is no need to worry. In Luke 12:27-31 Jesus says "But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you." Jesus tells us how to defeat worry. Trust God. The Word in Psa 62:8 says, "Trust in him at all times; [ye] people, pour out your heart before him: God [is] a refuge for us. Selah." |
