Phatdaddy is finally going to get his Master's Degree after taking a 20 year vacation. My kids are starting to get older and I find myself blogging and studying anyway, so I might as well put it to work and get a degree behind that BA and that's not a bad attitude either.
I am taking a class on Church Growth and Health and they shared something with me that I thought was pretty cool so I will pass it on for free! I have to pay for this information! LOL
It is called THE LAW OF 7'S.
Each person has influence over at least 7 people in their life. There could be more or less, just in my household alone there is 6. There are your friends, coworkers, neighbors, relatives etc...pull out your cell phone and how many names to you have saved in the Rolodex? 20, 30, 50 or more? So let's say that every person has the capability to reach 7 people for Jesus Christ.
OK, here is the math. Are you smarter than a 6th Grader?? LOL That show makes me feel so dumb. Anyway, he we go.
Jesus had 12 disciples right?
12 x 7 = 84
"After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[a]others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go." Lk 10:1 NIV (some texts say 70 but don't get too smart on me ok?)
So 72 (that were sent out) + 12 ( the disciples) = 84
84 x 7 = 588. So let's say each of the 84 had a family and they reached 7 other families. And let's say on average there are approximately 6 people per household.
So we have now 84 disciples x 7 new families is 588 families x 6 per household = 3,528 people.
Acts 2:40 about 3,000 were baptized.
3,528 people x 7 new families = 24,696 new families divide that number by 5 minus the man in the household. That equals 4,939 and that is approximately the number of men in the early new testament church.
Acts 4:4 "The number of men were 5,000"
So what is the principle? Each of us can influence somebody for Jesus Christ. If each of us would put 7 people on your list and starting praying for them and make a consciences effort to win them to Jesus imagine how fast your church could grow? Imagine how fast the Kingdom of God would advance?
I know these are only numbers, and we can make statistics say anything we want. However, I have applied this back in the year 2000 where each person listed 10 people on a list and prayed and sought to bring that person to Jesus. Did you know that 7 of my 10 got saved that year? No kidding! Those that were not on my list, but were friends of those on my list got saved too! What if only one person on your list got saved? How good would that be?
Anyway, just wanted you to be intentional in your "witnessing" and realize that if we all would reach out to our friends and neighbors then we would see exponential growth through multiplication rather than seeing onesies and twosies come into the fold.
Just a thought! God Bless all y'all!
