This song speaks to me in ways few songs do. Every-time I hear it it is the cry of my heart. For those of us called to be ministers, called to be parents, called to be spouses there are responsibilities that come with those roles. There is tremendous pressure not to fail. We always want to be a good parent, a good minister, a faithful spouse but there are times that we fall short in our human strength.
With that weighty responsibility we are given comes a heavy burden to achieve above and beyond every-one's expectations. For the Pastor it may mean that his marriage or his personal life must be perfect and a role model for everyone to follow. For the parent, it may mean being a good provider not only financially, but emotionally to your children. For the spouse it may be the burden of caring for that person when they are sick or ill, or putting up with a sin-habit, or even enduring their family. It is hard to be all things to all people. You may try so hard to please everyone, but you find that you fail miserably and that it seems as if burn out is inevitable.
We all love superheros. We love them because they do what we can not. They fight the good fight and are always victorious. So many of us try so hard to be that superhero at work, or at church, or in the household and it just seems like failure is certain. It feels like you are putting up a good front, but if everyone knew the real you, they would see this hero bleed, cry, and fall to their knees and beseech God for strength and help.
Do you know that you may be a Mom but not a super mom. You may be a Dad but not a super dad. You may be a provider but not a super provider. You may be a Minister but not a super minister. You may be a Husband but not a Super Husband. You may be a Wife, but not a super wife. In your own strength you are but a mere mortal. Meaning you a prone to failure, frailty, and foolishness, and if you keep trying in your might and power it will profit nothing and you surely will collapse under the load that you bear. However, in Christ, and through Christ, and by Christ you have super-natural power available to you. You are victorious, and a hero to many in need. But, we have to remember, that though our spirit may be willing our flesh is weak and it is not by might not by power but by His Spirit that enable us to accomplish the heroic tasks set before us. It is not easy to be you. It is not easy being me. But, I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me! And you can too! So rest up, get filled up, and fired up for the Lord is your helper and you are an overcomer!
Nice song Brother Todd....and no it's not easy...To whom much is given....MUCH is required..but this is the VICTORY that overcometh the world...even our faith...and we can do ALL things through CHRIST which strengthens us ;o)
Thanks Mike! I have often wondered why the blogs I give the most thought to and are the closest to my heart get over-looked. I suppose it is the Lord dealing with my ego. Which constantly needs to be knocked down a few pegs. I love this song and what the Lord has taught me through it.
Ever felt that way yourself? Make even a Christian Man Cry... Great Video! Those who stand in the gap for intrigrity, righteousness, holiness, often feel alone in a whole gone bad. But God's word warned us that it would be this way. Doesn't make it easy. Again. Thanks. May God direct you all. a friend.
Joseph, yes I feel that way all to often. Like I am not adequate enough, but God gives us grace doesn't He? That was a great comment and thank you for stopping by!
I do the best that I can... but that is after I ask for God to give me the strength to do it. And when I mistakes, I go out and ask for forgiveness. Then I come back in and and tell 'em I'm sorry and ask them to forgive me.
Joey, your humility is precious. No one can do it all even though we feel like we have to. God knows we are human He knows our weaknesses. It is a burden though we carry around to be more do more and be all that everyone needs me to be, but in the end the only one we need to please is the Lord.
