Paul puts this passage in the context of his primary mission to the Corinthian church. This kind of hits home with all the moving about that my family has done in the last few years. In the last 4 years we have lived in three cities; Ft. Worth, Houston and Abilene. So, we have uprooted and settled again a few times. With this also comes finding a new church home. Something I've noticed is how much time is spent by church members from various congregations, letting us know how great their church is. And, they do have reason to be proud, some of these churches have been quite impressive structures and organizations. Frequently, I've noticed that the purpose of their church is never mentioned. They focus on the Children's Ministry, Women's Ministry, Outreach Ministries. These things are important. Shouldn't they also mention that their church focuses on teaching about Christ. I see this more on church websites than I do from the mouths of the people that attend. Here's a question, do they know why they are going to church? Is it a social outlet for them or a time to hear their favorite music or possibly a time when they feel like somebody is listening to their problems when they offer up their prayers? Here's a prayer: Lord, let us remember JESUS!!! HE'S THE REASON WE GO TO CHURCH.
2:2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. |
