One of the drawbacks of being in the ministry is you have teach on things that convict you. Tonight is one such occasion. I am teaching through the gospel of Matthew and tonight we are in chapter six and we are dealing with worry. I wish I could tell you I have figured this dragon out, but I haven't. Confession time, I still worry. Case in point: staff meeting yesterday, we had a great Sunday; attendance was up, lots of decisions and parking lot was full. Good right? Yep great but. . . we are still trying to figure out what our next move should be. Invest in this location which is increasingly becoming too small. Sell out and move? Hmmmm? On the way home from that meeting the old worry bug showed up and began whispering in my ear. What are you going to do? You are the leader, right? Then your mind races and your hands begin to sweat, been there?
Fast forward to this morning and I am getting ready for my VBC class. Jesus said "Don't Worry" There is no way around it, He said don't worry. Here's what God has been teaching me this morning. - I need to identify what I am worried about
6:25 Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?
- I need to increase my faith
6:26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they? 6:27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life? 6:28 And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 6:29 yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 6:30 But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, `shall he' not much more `clothe' you, O ye of little faith? - I need to intensify my focus
6:33 But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. The defeat of worry comes down to trusting God. The best way I have found to work through worry is to pray, pray and then pray some more. I must trust God even when everything around me is screaming there is no use. He is there and He does care. 5:7 casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you. Well I need to go do some more praying. Hope you can slay your dragon of worry. God has placed a powerful tool in your hand, just get on your knees and use it. 4:6 In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. |
