HOLY – grk. (hagios) – literally means to be righteous, pure, sinless, and godly; to be perfect, complete and fulfilled in every possible sense; to be separated and entirely different from all other beings and things. The three reasons why we have the Privilege
1. God is HOLY. 2. God has called all believers to be holy in all of life. 3. Scripture demands holiness. Cf. Lev 11:45, 19:2, 20:7, 26; Luke 1:74-75; 2 Cor 7:1; Heb 12:14; 1 Peter 1:16; Psa 99:9; Isa 6:3; Rev 15:4
SAINT, SANCTIFICATION – grk. (hagios) – basic meaning is to be separated, set apart, and different. Morally, it means pure, sinless, righteous, holy.
A study of these usages shows God and His Holiness through all eternity. 1. God is supremely HOLY. Cf. Luke 1:49; John 17:11; 1 Peter 1:15; Isa 6:1f; Rev 4:8
2. Things that have a special connection with and to God are HOLY. Cf. Exo 3:1-5; Acts 7:33; Matt 24:15; Heb 9:2-3; 2 Peter 1:18; Luke 1:35; Matt 7:6; Rom 1:2
3. The Church is the HOLY people of God. Cf. John 17:14, 16; Rom 11:16f; 1 Peter 2:5, 9; Eph 1:22-23, 2:21-22; 1 Cor 3:16
4. God, making them HOLY, hallows the Believer. Cf. 1 Cor 6:19-20; Acts 9:13, 32, 41; 26:10; Rom 1:7; Phi 1:1 |
