| Who is your enemy? |

6:1 On that night could not the king sleep; and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles, and they were read before the king. 6:2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, of those that kept the threshold, who had sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus. 6:3 And the king said, What honor and dignity hath been bestowed on Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him. 6:4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. 6:5 And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in. 6:6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor? Now Haman said in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself? 6:7 And Haman said unto the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honor, 6:8 let royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and on the head of which a crown royal is set: 6:9 and let the apparel and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man therewith whom the king delighteth to honor, and cause him to ride on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor. 6:10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken. 6:11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and caused him to ride through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor. Esther has long been one of my favorite books of the bible. It is a wonderful narrative of how the Lord blesses obedient, humble people. In particular, Ch.6 has always touched me deeply. Just who is our "enemy"? We know that 'the satan' is the enemy, who is the accuser of the brethen. Certainly, unbelievers are enemies of the cross and the gospel is of no affect for/to them. Yet, what about people who hurt us, are they our enemies? I would say no. The lord gives us Esther chapter 6 to show us that people who hurt and persecute us have a purpose in our lives.
What was Haman's purpose? He brought Mordeci the honor which was due him. Have you ever wondered: when is my season coming? When will I be rewarded for my pain, my perseverance, my faithfulness? I am sure Mordeci had some of these same thoughts. He remained faithful in the midst of Haman's persecution. He would not worship foregion gods. He even served a king who did not believe in the Lord. Instead of allowing men to kill the king; which would have surely benefited his people, Mordeci spoke up and saved the king's life. What thanks did he get? None. He watched Haman get rewarded and elevated while he recieved persecution. I submit to you that Haman had a purpose though; the Lord ordained Haman to be close to the king so he could cause Mordeci to be blessed. Sure, the Lord could have blessed Mordeci in another way, but isn't it just like God to use your persecuter to bless you?
Haman also had a purpose in Esther's life. He propelled Esther to her rightful place. Before Hanam's plot to kill the Isrealites, Esther had just been another pretty woman serving as eye-candy for her king. Sure, she was queen, but she had no true power, no place. Haman forced her to act, to put her faith into action, and to reveal her true gift. Risking her life for her people had long been her destiny. God knew that . Mordeci knew it. Esther did not. The Lord used Haman to yank Esther's head out of the clouds and remind her that she belonged to him.
So, then my brothers and my sisters, take heart, be encouraged and do not be dismayed. The next time some "enemy" begins to harass, persecute, or hurt you; stay focused, do not be distracted. Jesus is simply using that person to bring you into your rightful place. That "enemy" is heaven-sent to bring forth the glory of the father inside of you. Rejoice and be glad because you belong to God and he knows just what it will take to bring your ministry, your career, your marriage, and your heart into fullness.

Starr, this is a word from the Lord! Thanks for posting this. It is hard to "see" often, which is why we need God to open our eyes spiritually to see things from HIS perspective. God has been doing that for me this week, and it has been powerful. God bless! ~mike
(Gordon, thanks for sending me the link to this blog! I saw it come up in the Active Blogs list yesterday, but didn't have the time to read it then.) |

Hmm, is spiritual vision (seeing things through the lens of spiritual truth) the same as having faith (certainty in what we can't see)..... I'll have to ponder that... :-) |

| Starr: yes in that case even our enemies are our friends because they fulfill a divine purpose in our life. When you look at it like that, it sure can keep us from being angry and bitter against those that hurt us. I was just talking and counseling a brother in the Lord who had been hurt in ministry. I told him that God uses pastors, leaders, freinds, etc...to hurt us and to kill our flesh. I know that runs contrary to what we want to think, but what Satan means for bad God means and intends for good. He is conforming us to the image and likeness of Christ and Jesus was despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Yet He endured and remained faithful and obedient unto death even the death on a cross. It is a hard thing to understand the sovereignty of God especially when we hear that if we follow Jesus we will be healthy wealthy and wise. However, the truth of the matter is that God is out to kill us. He is out to kill our flesh and to bring us into obedience and the likeness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is a good God, a loving God, and knows just how much pressure to apply to certain areas of your life to bring about the finished product. HIs mercy is new every day, and He is faithful. Many aspire and desire to hurt us, but God has built a hedge of protection about us, and no one can touch us unless the Father says so. If he lets the persecution and difficulty come rest assure it if for a purpose and for our own good. And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God and who are called according to His purpose. |

Todd-
"However, the truth of the matter is that God is out to kill us. He is out to kill our flesh and to bring us into obedience and the likeness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. "
I couldn't agree more. Our life with Jesus is a "death-walk" as we strive to know him more and be known by him. |
