Jael Judges 4:17-22, 5:6, 5:24-25
5:24 Blessed above women shall Jael be, The wife of Heber the Kenite; Blessed shall she be above women in the tent. 5:25 He asked water, `and' she gave him milk; She brought him butter in a lordly dish.
Jael's purpose was intertwined in with Deborah. Here is another woman who excels above man because she chooses to serve God. Jael was married to Heber, who may have been very neutral regarding Israel and it's oppression by the Canaan king (v4:11,17). It was obvious that the commander of the Canaan army Sisera felt comfortable going into Heber's tent. He trusted he would be safe with Jael, a woman who offered her tent as a hiding place.
She used her skills: · made Sisera relaxed even more than when he first arrived at her tent (v4:19); he fell asleep · Using the skill she developed from pitching tents, she easily drove a tent peg into his temple.
Strength & Accomplishments · she choose to side with God · she was resourceful · she was courageous
Lessons from her life · Even when other underestimate us, we can do all things with God. · You will be acknowledged for your commitment to God (5:24) |
