The author of today's passage lays down the core of what we as believers must do to be successful in this life. Success is subjective in our human life but I think we all agree that success in our eternal life is based upon our faith. The Law was given to Moses to keep us straight and on the right path until our Messiah came to be with us. Jesus then gave us himself as a model for attaining eternal life with him. This passage illustrates both of these points. Meditating on scripture and then applying what you learn fulfills all of God's commands and expectations for us. It's as if we are back in grade school and our teacher gave us all the vocabulary words for the whole year. We would all take our own time in learning the definitions but our mastery of them would depend on how much time we put in and our ability to understand. By the end of the year those that applied what they had learned would pass. It's the same with God's word, he's given you all you need before you even start your life, define your life by how you apply your knowledge of him!
1:1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 1:2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 1:3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. |
