I don't get that idea.  I kind of get it in Spain when the March attacks ushered in the leftist government because it crystallized the simmering opposition to their presence in Iraq.  But in the United States, the reaction to an attack, as we have seen, is to rally around the military use of force and that is--without a doubt--the land of the Republicans.

But why would the Muslim extremists want to ensure another 4 years of Rebublican control of the USA?  When it seems obvious that an Obama administration would be more eager to engage in diplomatic as opposed to military actions in the so-called war on terrorism, it seems that they would want to lay low and look defeated to get a "wimp" (vis a vi militant actions in comparision to McCain's BOMB IRAN and 100 YEARS IN IRAQ stands) in office to strike a nation that is less likely to strike back...

I think you are correct to a large degree. The bin Laden gang will watch. If it looks like Obama is a sure win, then it wouldn't make sense for them to attack. If it looks like a McCain win, then, different story. I personally think that we are most vulnerable after the election when many of the upper echelon in the government are resigning and new people have not been put in place yet.
