Challenge Your Own Thinking

4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

I frequently challenge my own opinions. I mean, just because I think or believe something, doesn’t make it true. We live in a culture where we are constantly being brain washed and manipulated. Thus our own opinions are sometimes unreliable.  We need to test and examine our own thinking by God's truth, the Bible.

Let me illustrate: To demonstrate the power of suggestion, a chemistry professor once held up and described a bottle labeled “Apple Blossom Perfume.” Then he opened the bottle and asked his class to raise their hand just as soon as they could smell the perfume. Within 15 seconds, just about all his students had lifted up a hand. The bottle contained only water.  The thinking and opinions of all the students had been tricked and deceived.

Why not challenge some of your own opinions today? After all, the stinger of a bee is only about 1/32 of an inch long. The other foot and a half is opinion.  Perhaps we should test our ideas, doctrines, and traditions by the Word of God!

Hi Steve,

you know when we all get on one accord by allowing the Word of God to be the beginning and ending, the final authority of our quest in life we would have less wars, less carelessness and recklessness, and selfishness. we would actually have a guarantee, a manifestation of the life Jesus came to give to us right here on the earth: ZOE a life of more abundance, a prosperous journey in Him. And we wouldn't have to be concerned with a recession either.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.
And yes, the Bible tells us so much, but even the Bible doesn't tell us all.
We're talking about stories sent down from centuries.
Stories on top of stories.
Who knows, right?
