| When Failure Comes |
|

7:3When they returned to Joshua, they said, "Not all the people will have to go up against Ai. Send two or three thousand men to take it and do not weary all the people, for only a few men are there." 4So about three thousand men went up; but they were routed by the men of Ai, 5 who killed about thirty-six of them. They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries [m] and struck them down on the slopes. At this the hearts of the people melted and became like water. 6 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the LORD, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.Joshua 7:3-6 NIV I happen to be an expert on failure. I have failed many times and have experienced many hurtful situations because of my own mistakes or disobedience to the LORD or I have been a party to someone else's disobedience to the LORD. There are many lessons to be learned in this story of Achan, AI, and Joshua, but one that the Spirit has been impressing upon me lately is this.
When failure comes, we should follow the example of Joshua and fall our face before God and inquire of the LORD why this failure happened. Just as the Lord did for Joshua so He will do for you and reveal what went wrong and why. The important thing is to take the time and stay before the LORD. Did you notice that Joshua and the elders stayed all day? Then the answer came.
The LORD truly wants to guide us and help us in every endeavor we face, but we must take the time to sit before the LORD and ask what happened and why. |

Oh Brother Todd this is an excellent blog..and I too, must admit that I have had my share of falling on my face and inquiring of the Lord as to WHY things were happening in my life as they were.....I look back on those times now and I give GOD Praise...because it was through those failures....those rough times....those mistakes...those hurtful situations...and even those times when GOD was trying to BREAK MY WILL to conform to HIS WILL it all drew me close to my Lord and Saviour....It is through those times of falling on our faces that we learn about relationship and fellowship and intimacy with GOD...I wouldn't trade those times for nothing in the whole wide world....Now in my Christian walk...I don't have to wait for trouble to come....I get JOY out of falling on my face and spending time with my Lord daily....Thanks for sharing ;o) |

| ahhhh I too have a problem with failure.... and the feelings that come with it... humiliation.... hurt... betrayal.... If I go my own way... then I want to run and hide... I become... self centered.... overly concerned with what other people are thinking about me.... instead of what God thinks *sigh*. A lesson I seem to have to learn over and over and over again.... Its a good thing... for me especially ...that my gracious Lord...dosent mind teaching me over and over and over again.. His grace is awesome... Thank You God...... and thank you Brother Todd... your blog is perfect words at the perfect time. =0) |

Thanks for sharing this blog, Bro.Todd...I, too, would consider myself an expert on failure. But, I just keep taking my failures to the altar and trusting God that He will truly make this a reality in my life there......... A.....altering L.....lives T.....totally A....against R....reason I daily need my life altered by our gracious God and it will truly be totally against any reasoning in my mind because I certainly don't feel worthy of His mercies and grace which are new every morning. |

| Todd I believe failure also comes when we take our eyes and focus off Jesus. We begin to do things in our own strength and not HIS. I know I have failed in this way myself. The Lord has to be everything to us in all things we do and then we will accomplish the task. |

Todd, great lessons abound in our failures. Mine too! God always has something to teach us, doesn't he? Hey man, I'll always be quick to admit I have much to learn! I was tempted to take a contrary pt of view just to mess w/you...but I resisted... ;-) Love ya bro! |

Cheryl: Failure comes when we stop trying. :) You are a blessing too!
Rhonda: Where would we be without His grace and mercy in our lives?
Marjay: I have been a Christian many years now, and I am ashamed to say that I am just learning about staying before the Father. You are way ahead of me girl! |

| Kathy: We are never worthy. But as we fall before Him and give him our burdens and failures it is good to know that we can leave them there. |

| Mike: Yield not to temptation brother! How could you disagree with this? LOL Maybe I should write a more controversial blog! Yes, there are many lessons to learn in failure and it is a good idea to ask the Lord where we went wrong. |

| Mike: Yes brother! Learning from our mistakes brings us closer to Him. Isn't it great that He is not just the God of the 2nd chance but the 3rd 4th 5th 6th etc...blessed is the man that falls 7 times but gets back up again. |

| TicklemeElmo: Gee I thought your middle name was "me" Seriously though, get used to it, but learn to respond to failure correctly. Failure is never the end unless we give up. Someone asked Thomas Edision if he was discouraged about not being able to achieve his invention about the light bulb. Thomas Edision responded joyfully, "I have just found out that there are so many ways it doesn't work." LOL |
