| Where Love Comes From |
|
| |
1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. This is a great verse to meditate upon. Where does love come from? My mind races to I John 4:7-8 "For love is of God...for God is love" but, the Apostle Paul writes something here that is worth thinking about. Where does love come from?
Love comes from a pure heart.
What does that mean? A "pure heart" is a heart that has no ulterior motives. True love is not about loving so we get something in return. That is not love. That is business - "You scratch my back and I will scratch yours." Love, loves just because it wants to, that it sees the need to. A pure heart is a person who's motives are not tainted and corrupted by selfish gain or approval, but just because they do.
Love comes from a good conscience.
A good conscience? What does that have to do with love? Your conscience is what tells you what is right and wrong. If you have a good conscience or a clear conscience it means you are not guilty. So many times we love out of a guilty conscience. We feel bad for someone, or we flatter someone and manipulate them to get our way. That is not exercising a good conscience. A good conscience says, I love you for the right reason and I don't expect anything back in return.
Love comes from a sincere faith.
What does a sincere faith have to do with love? Well, as we love the Lord and fall in love with Him we find that we will start loving the things and people He loves. As we are loved by the Lord and love the Lord ourselves He fills our heart with love for others. As your true faith in Christ grows so does your love for others grows in direct proportion to your love for the Lord. A sincere, real, genuine faith expresses love in a myriad of ways. You will not have to think about what to do, or muster up some love to give, it naturally, or should I say supernaturally flows out of you into an-other's life because of how the Lord loves you. You then become a conduit of God's love! A channel of blessing! |

| Brother Todd this was an awesome blog...and my friend you hit it right on the nail in all three points....I too can say that I LOVE this one (smile)...So many times when dealing with people, and I mean church people, I have found out that many times they talk love...but as you have clearly taught, their motives are not pure and sincere, and with a good conscience....Love is not saying words just in order to achieve a goal, or try to obtain special favors of someone ...Real Love is work....Real Love is sacrifice...and not thinking about oneself...but thinking always about the other person....But Oh How I Thank GOD for His Love Brother Todd...because in Him we will never be disappointed or let down, and He will ALWAYS be there for us. GREAT WORD!!!! |

| Great lesson Bro. Todd!! Few people understand unconditional love in this day and age, much less put it into practice. If only we could fully grasp the meaning of the true unconditional love that God has for us and allow ourselves to love others that way. God help us all!! |

| Very nice Todd. To my love comes from the emotional and the rational understanding that when you love others, those persons will love you in return, and when there is love good things happen to you and those around you. |

Marjay: There is a lot of wisdom in your words dear sister! ...Real Love is work....Real Love is sacrifice...and not thinking about oneself...but thinking always about the other person....Could not have said it better! AMEN! It is amazing to me how Christians fall into the trap of manipulation instead of love. It hurts when it is found out to be something other than love that is for sure! Need to discern don't we?

| Unlike anything else in the universe… love is not something that God created. In fact, Love is what God is. Scripture tells us that God is love. It is because He is love that we were created and it is our inability to love that sets us apart from God.
1 John 4:8
He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love.
1 John 4:16
And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him.
Love comes to us from God, through the Holy Spirit. Anything that man believes to be his own form of love is not really love at all but something else... (a contaminated or perverse expression of something he believes or pretends to be love).
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,
