16:2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness: 16:3 and the children of Israel said unto them, Would that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
13:5And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven. 13:6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits. 13:7Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. 13:8And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel `had appointed': but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. 13:9 And Saul said, Bring hither the burnt-offering to me, and the peace-offerings. And he offered the burnt-offering. 13:10 And it came to pass that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. 13:11And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash; 13:12therefore said I, Now will the Philistines come down upon me to Gilgal, and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah: I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt-offering.
4:15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work. 4:16 And it came to pass from that time forth, that half of my servants wrought in the work, and half of them held the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah. 4:17They all builded the wall and they that bare burdens laded themselves; every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other held his weapon; 4:18and the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.
1:12 Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things `which happened' unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel; 1:13 so that my bonds became manifest in Christ throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest; 1:14 and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear. 38:4Then the princes said unto the king, Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt. 38:5 And Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he that can do anything against you. 38:6Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.
It is a joy to serve the risen savior. In distress, through opposition, in battle, abandoned, and in chains, I continue to be a minister, chosen by God for a purpose. My pastor assigned me to read, the book, Last Days by Charles Marsh. It is a historical narrative chronicling a white pastor's struggle to minister the truth of the gospel in rural Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement. As I have read this book, my thoughts have centered around this topic: ministry in adversity.
Can you imagine what Moses felt like? Here he was in the desert--middle of nowhere with tens of thousands of hungry people grumbling against him. They could have easily overcame him and taken his life. What did Moses do in this situation? He sought God. Not only did the Lord provide food for the people; he also elevated his servant, Moses in the eyes of the people. The Lord took this instance to place his anointing and stamp on Moses. The Lord made it clear that he would answer the prayers of his servant, Moses. In a similar way pastors and leaders, Jesus will justify you in the eyes of a people who mumble and grumble. You are his anointed one.
We all have been scared of the people at some point in our ministry, scared of what they would think of us; scared of their disapproval. As we mature, that fear dissipates and their power over us loosens and disappears. But Saul was a new king, still uncertain, green, and inexperienced, so when the people became afraid and looked at him for assurance, he reacted. His reaction cost him his anointing, his kingship, and his place. We must remain calm and patient when ministering in adversity. We cannot allow the people to force us to do be disobedient to God and stray from God's plan for our lives.
There will be times when we have to go to battle for our ministry--literally. We will have to take up our word and fight the devil in our preaching and our teaching. My pastor said boldly in one of his sermons: "I will not work with Satan--Satan will not represent me!" We have to do likewise. We can't compromise with Satan--noway, no how. I don't care how powerful or popular the evildoers are, we cannot forget that the enemies of God still hate God! All we can do is keep building the wall, stay on our post, and be obedient to our calling. Paul was in chains. He still preached the gospel. Jeremiah was at the bottom of a cistern, he still proclaimed God's word. Pastor Marsh in the book, Last Days still pastored and showed love to his people; some of whom were Klan members, murderers, and rapist. We can minister in adversity. Jesus gives us strength. Take heart, he has already overcome the world!

My sister what a powerful word! Those are the kind of words that will fire us up, but we often forget in the heat of battle. I think it is important to remember who we are working for and what we are working for as ministers. When we know that we are standing for God, who can be against us right? Why are we working? Because the cause is so great! Who will stand in the gap between a Holy God and sinful man? Who will go for me? Here am I Lord send me! So, we go and serve, even though it is hard and can be down right brutal, we serve and pour our our lives as a drink offering so that He might be glorified. Starr....that is a wonderful message thanks for blessing me with it!

Amen revstarr, what a power word to share today. You and Brother Todd are right on here. It can get down right brutal serving the Lord and sometimes we might even question our calling in the heat of the moment. But I want you sister and all my brothers and sisters in Christ to remain steadfast and unmoveable, always abounding, trusting not in ourselves but in God.

yes we must do what GOD tell us to do, we must say what GOD tell us to say, and after serving the LORD, we must stand, after we have prayed, and cried, some even run and hide (Elijah) after serving the LORD we must stand. Great Word

I believe adversity is the devils greatest tool. We must be strong to spite and conquer evil, for it lurks and prowls everywhere. We can only do this through the power of our living God. This post was powerful. Peace and blessings.... Joey
