The Senate vote came out to be 74 "Yea" to 25 "Nay". So yes, as implied by the title, it's rant time. I'm having a hard time with this bail-out bill; calling it a "rescue plan" is a farce. First of all, it's implied that the American people don't want this "rescue plan" because it's bailing out Wall Street, therefore some of our "leaders" are basically saying you are too stupid to know otherwise. Maybe that's what some of them are thinking, but it goes far deeper than that. It's about ideology if you are a conservative thinker. This bill still asks for money to be piped into the system, assuredly not teaching that same system any lessons whatsoever. On top of all that, they added another $100 billion in pork on top of the infamous (and fabricated) $700 billion, and I'm so mad thinking about it I don't want to discuss how silly a couple of these tack-ons are (one is for mental health insurance, so we are inherently screwed). Republicans are saying the Democrats "sweetened the deal". What? Has Bush and the rest of the Republicans gone mad? The fact that Bush wants this so bad by the fact he's in a rush to handcuff us even more than we are and the fact McCain voted for this crap makes me honestly believe the Republican Party is out to lunch when it comes to conservative ideology as they are out to lunch on that "we won't go for big government" thing. You guys want to make sure something is done about the Democrats that were involved in those GSE's already? I get it: they are all clearly in the tank for Socialism. These guys have wasted two weeks working on a flawed plan. They should probably think about guaranteeing all deposits instead of the $250K cap they bumped it to (which currently is $100k), let banks who clearly aren't going to be helping matters going forward do what they have to do (fail or merge), force changes in regards to lending practices (this credit game we've allowed to go rampant the past 15 years needs to end, now), comprehensive oversight of those who would carry out the execution of provisions within the bill, and investigation of those in DC who perpetuated this mess. That's too much to ask as they are goofing off floating a fabricated number out there, talking about nationalization of banks, bailing out foreign investors, and adding dangerous pork which inherently mean we are footing more tax dollars anyway. Why not work on fixing the system that caused this problem instead of throwing a band-aid on an already existing problem that we slowly got to and they clearly saw? Why don't they get it? Why? It's not rocket science. Enough of this "sky is falling non-sense". What credibility Bush had left has totally dissipated. I've come to the conclusion that they are all Marxists-In-Training. I should just wash my hands of this mess, and like someone who "clings to religion" as Barry Obama once put it, cling to my Bible. We are being sold down the river, folks. Will someone make them forget floating the paper my grand kids will end up paying for and make them do some of that "reform" they are fond of talking about but never doing? Thanks! Your Comrade, Karl Marx Will Sams
P.S. Elizabeth Dole voted "no". Her Senate seat challenger, Democrat Kay Hagen, declined to take sides when asked about the bailout. |
