| Caution ~ Our Own Thoughts Can Be Dangerous ~ Heartache and Opening the Eyes of Our Hearts |

Did you know that God knows us so well, our very thoughts are known before we can even voice them? I bet you might never realize just how much God truly knows about us as individuals and as a community. I know this is a shock to some, but thoughts often lead to actions, and God is part of each and everything you think and do. Yesterday's sermon was on walking in the path God created for us. Our paths may not go in the same direction, but if it's God's path, they all converge at some point. Think on this verse here.
Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts. Proverbs 4:23 (GNT)
This is different from the NIV version and you'll see how different by reading this. Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Now here you see, it's worded so very differently. Another different wording is found in the New American Standard Version. Proverbs 4:23Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. Now, this is very similar to the first version, because often we look inside ourselves at our thoughts and our feelings and it is often those that are expressed, sometimes in the wrong path, others in the honesty, and love that God would expect out of each of us. Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. All of these verses refer in many ways to the very same thing, our thoughts and feelings. Keeping our heart in the right place is a very difficult thing, no matter how we slice it, we often want so much and find only heartache in return. Opening the eyes of our heart, as Randy Travis would sing to us, will show us just what this verse in Proverbs is showing us. I've shown you four versions of the same verse. You can see how differently the translations word this very powerful verse.
All of the verses have two things in common, they all say to watch over our hearts. Watch over them? I bet you asked that question. Watch over your heart. Don't let it harbor fear, anger, hate, sorrow, anguish, or pain, because your heart is the wellspring of your life and if you focus only on those things, you cannot focus on the three wondrous things God brings us, PEACE, LOVE, and FORGIVENESS. For we all have the ability to create peace, within and without. We all have the ability to love and be loved. We all have the ability to be forgiven and the ability to forgive. As long as we remember these things, God can work through our thoughts, our words and our actions. So, be a doer, be a vessel of God, as only YOU can be. This is the word and the light as brought to us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen and so it shall be.

This is excellent, Rev. Laura! I learned a lesson from this yesterday due to a situation at work. I had some thoughts about a co-worker, then I realized this was wrong and immediately asked God to forgive me as it was a busy day yesterday, and the co-worker did not assist me as she was supposed to do. I knew she had other problems, but she was not doing her current job but taking care of business on her weekend job. So, I was a little "perturbed." I went to her this morning and asked if I could assist her, but she was really sweet and said that she was almost done. I felt better all day after talking to her this morning, knowing that things were fine between us. I knew then that God had forgiven me, as I immediately realized my wrong and asked for His forgiveness. It's hard to walk the walk, but can be done. By the way, I went to see "Fireproof" today and I strongly recommend it! Kirk Cameron was wonderful! ~hugs~ Angela |
