21:5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for [there is] no bread, neither [is there any] water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. 21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. The children of Israel were such a blessed people in that God was providing them bread from heaven. The time comes that they begin to complain in the form of speaking against Moses then speaking against God. They begin to complain that Moses brought them out in the wilderness to starve or thirst to death. God has a response to complainers, the Lord sent fiery serpents and the serpents bit the people and they died. Instant revival broke out in the camp in that they repented to Moses of their sins, they committed against him and Almighty God. With repentance God sent forth a plan to preserve those that would listen to God's instructions. God instructed Moses to make a brazen serpent and attach it to a pole. God said, To have those bitten to look on the serpent attached to a pole that was raised for all to see. Verse 8, God said to look and live. There was not anything else one could do to preserve one's life but to look and live. This old testament story is retold in John's gospel in the third chapter. 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Here we have John saying just like the brazen serpent was lifted up in the wilderness, so must Jesus be lift up to preserve peoples lives. Look and Live, looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of your faith. Look and Live, there's no other name given whereby men may be saved. Look and Live, For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Look and Live. |
