Sometimes it is easy to get overwhelmed by a feeling of insignificance. Do I really make any difference in this world? I was just reading this morning about a man by the name of Abraham. He was just one man, yet through him all the families of the earth were blessed.
15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and number the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. What was so special about Abraham? Intelligence? Physical strength? Good looks? As far as I can understand the Bible, the thing that drew God to Abraham was simple yet profound, it was his faith. 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out unto a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. Here is one man who literally touched the whole world, can one person make a difference? Yes through faith we can make a huge difference. I will be traveling Tuesday to Lynchburg for the funeral of Jerry Falwell, here is one man who touched the lives of millions. The best sermons I ever heard Dr. Falwell preach were the sermons on faith. He had an unbelievable faith in God and as a result of that God was pleased with him and used him in a tremendous way. 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing `unto him'; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and `that' he is a rewarder of them that seek after him. "Nothing can change your life like a passionate faith in God. No dream is too big, no goal out of reach." Jerry Falwell
I believe everyone of us can make a difference through faith in God. God can take the ordinary and turn it into the extraordinary. I pastor a church in an area of declining population with about 28,000 people within our ministry area. Most people tell me you can't build a growing church in an area like this, but we have grown for the last several years and this year we are on track for yet another record year. I believe we can make a difference. I hope you will join me in this most important of all quests, telling families the good news of Jesus Christ. You can make a difference Catch you later . . . |
