| Day 48 |

The reading for day 48 was Ecclesiastes 3:1 - Song of Solomon 8:14.
So...back to the insane rambling that I like to do in these blog thingies. Chapter 3 of Ecc. is the "time for everything" chapter. Its very interesting the things that there are "times" for. Go back and read it and see if some of those things don't make you scratch your head a little and ask "why?" 3:9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? 3:10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. 3:11 He hath made every [thing] beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. 3:12 I know that [there is] no good in them, but for [a man] to rejoice, and to do good in his life. 3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it [is] the gift of God. 3:14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth [it], that [men] should fear before him. Wow...God does whatever He pleases so that men will fear Him. What a concept. This, to me, is a beautiful passage that speaks to God's liberating sovereignty and how we can find comfort in it. What do you think when you read this passage?
5:1 5:2Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter [any] thing before God: for God [is] in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. 5:2 5:3For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice [is known] by multitude of words. I think there are a lot of people in the church today that would do well to memorize these verses.
7:10 Say not thou, What is [the cause] that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this. No offense to the senior citizens out there...but I've met and worked with a lot of older people who were stuck in the past and always talked about how much better it was way back when. This verse is for them...don't do that anymore.
This verse is for those who think they are perfect 7:20 For [there is] not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
I like the simplicity with which Solomon ends his teachings on life, the universe, and everything. 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man. 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.
Song of Solomon is a beautifully hard portion of scripture to blog about : ) I wish that I had a lot to say, but sadly, I do not. When viewed as a picture of Christ's love for the church, it tells how deeply he longs for us and, at least hopefully, us for him. Ted Dekker has a book called "When Heaven Weeps" that speaks of the kind of love/desire that permeates the Song of Solomon. Pick up a copy and give it a read.
8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love [is] strong as death; jealousy [is] cruel as the grave: the coals thereof [are] coals of fire, [which hath a] most vehement flame. 8:7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if [a] man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. |
