A guy that goes to our fellowship was doing some discipleship with some young adults. He was intending to show them that God had bright plans for them by taking them to Jeremiah 29:11.
In his NKJV it read
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
However in their version, the NASB it read
For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. (emphasis mine)
Needless to say it had a different impact than he had planned.
LOL...that's a funny example of how the translational differences can be very different in their meanings, but it points out why KJV is the place to be! :)
