Some of the best times in prayer are wordless times. I stop speaking, close my eyes, and meditate upon what I have been reading or upon what I have been saying, and I listen inside of myself. I listen deeply. I listen for reproofs....It is here that the Holy Spirit invades.
Please be assured that I have never heard an audible voice. It isn't that kind of answering. It's a listening down inside. It's sensing what God is saying about the situation. His promise is, after all, that He will inscribe His law--His will--upon our hearts and our minds.
I believe the Father answers His children in the fashion He chooses weather it is audible or not... Maybe some of us need to hear His voice OUT LOUD.....
This is a good blog. We watched a video on this recently at church. It was a short movie about a guy who was having coffee with Jesus. It was supposed to be his morning prayer. He sat down and just started talking and kept giving requests and stuff to Jesus and Jesus would try to talk but the guy wouldn't shut up. Then the guy said "Well Jesus, this has been nice, but I have to go" and then got up and left with Jesus trying to say something.
I agree with you. I think God speaks to us in differing ways. Depending on the situation and our need. His way is perfect. That much I know.
I've tried to work on being quiet. One thing I've found is that I must focus in on Gods character. I have a tendency to let my mind wander if I don't focus in on something. But I do believe that if we take the time, that God will lay His message on our hearts.
The best voice to listen to is the WRITTEN WORD OF GOD...You can't go wrong there (smile)...There are A LOT of voices out here...and if you are not mature enough to discern the difference between the voices....you may get the wrong message thinking that it is the VOICE OF GOD....We have a SURE WORD of Prophecy...all we have to do is READ IT and APPLY (smile)
